Oh, and Edie Brickell and Tracy Chapman |
Here are a few I don't think anyone has mentioned yet:
R.E.M.: Radio Free Europe So. Central Rain It's the End of the World As We Know It Nightswimming Everybody Hurts INXS: Original Sin The One Thing This Time Listen Like Thieves Mystify I loved, loved, loved 10,000 Maniacs when I was in high school (yes, high school... I'm old). I recommend all of their stuff! |
I love night swimming!!! |
Ah... (moment of nostalgia for the music of my tortured adolescence)
But seriously, what do you (or any of us) want with it now that we're middle-aged moms? |
Under The Milky Way by The Church |
You're never too old to listen to music you like. I still listen to faves from the 80s and 90s. Should I be listening to Frank Sinatra or something? |
Sorry Zumba, I didn't quite mean it that way. I guess I'm saying I'm surprised to hear you all still like it as adults. For me, there's a little shiver of nostalgia, sometimes the appreciation that the tune is kind of catchy (or not-- then what was I thinking!), then a groan when I hear the angst-ridden, self-indulgent lyrics that speak to teens best. |
i would not classify 10,000 maniacs, natalie merchant, rem etc as appealing only to teens. not at all. |
Have the lyrics in recent music gotten less angst-ridden and self-indulgent? Aren't angst and self-indulgence the bread-and-butter of teenage life? |
Yes, but it hasn't appealed to me since I was a teen. Recent music is equally self-indulgent. |
