I'm trying to spruce up my iPod with some depressing goth alt music or what ever it would be called now. Help. Any suggestions? What other songs/bands were great back then (when I was ten, heh). |
I am a big fan of Depeche Mode if you are looking for some depressing goth techno-ish stuff. |
any particular songs you love? |
Not the pp, but for Depeche Mode how about "Blasphemous Rumors" or "Somebody" |
Just Like Heaven - The Cure
Melt With You - Modern English |
Depeche Mode, Enjoy the Silence
Joy Division, Love Will Tear Us Apart pretty much anything by This Mortal Coil Smiths, How Soon is Now |
Yes, Depeche Mode, "Somebody." Damn that is a sad song. Last lines kill me. . .
Jim Carroll's "Those are people who died" is good. (side note, I was actually burning his cd to my ipod when I found out he died.) For happy stuff. . ."Kiss me on the buss," Replacements" It's a Dean Man's Party, "Oingo Bongo" |
PP here. That would be "It's a DEAD man's party. |
Very depressing. Ian Curtis killed himself and rumour has it that he did it by wrapping is neck in piano wire whilst standing on a block of ice. |
I already PP'd about This Mortal Coil. I just remembered the name of the particular song that is guaranteed to take you down.
Song to the Siren http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMU5EeMEt4s |
Soul Asylum, "Black Gold." Curiously uplifting guitar riffs but utterly despondent lyrics.
Replacements, "Here Comes a Regular." Replacements, "Unsatisfied." god, I'm getting depressed just humming these to myself |
moving back to the techno ... Psychedelic Furs, Ghost in You. |
The whole album "the queen is dead" by the Smiths
Tears for Fears "The Hurting" (oh, such teen angst) XTC 'skylarking' (particularly for the song 'Dear God', but the whole thing is awesomely 80's). |
Tears for Fears Woman in Chains
Smiths Big Mouth Strikes Again Depeche Mode Strangelove or anything off the Violator album I second the Psychedelic Furs Ghost in You recommendation |
