| ^^ His parents did everything to SHIELD him from the idiot American soccer coaches. He did not play in multiple tournaments or for multiple teams. They guarded his development. So unlike the teams around here traveling out of town for some 'elite' tournament every other weekend and wasting so many nights a week---up to 4---in training that is doing NOTHING for their individual development. They could use more time on their own. |
and leave the U.S.. |
It's utterly ridiculous to say the US was solely responsible for his success, and it's equally ridiculous to say the US had nothing to do with it. And he didn't "hightail it the hell out of here." He was playing for the US U17 team when Dortmund, there to scout a different US player, fell for Pulisic instead, an signed him. Again, playing in the US system helped him to get to where he is. |
|
^^^ you didn't even know who he was 2 years ago did you??? I was appalled as early as even last early spring so many of our coaches and my kids' teammates had never even heard of him.
I am also going to go out on a limb and say that the majority of Americans only know about last night's loss because they read it here or in the newspaper. I am sure very few even watched the game or knew they were playing. That is how much our country does not follow soccer. |

The video of Taylor Twellman reacting to the loss on camera sums up exactly how I feel. It was fantastic!!
google and watch. Wake up America. |
| how come the US can produce top women's teams but not men's in the current system? |
Please read the entire thread before asking the same question over and over again. US Women started playing soccer decades before all other Countries. They got their *ss handed to them at the last Olympics and lost. As these other Nations (the real soccer nations) catch-up, the US women are going to suffer the same fate because they rely on the same shitty physical style as the USMNT. |
and they did the same whiny bullshit the USMNT is doing. Hope Solo crying that the other team didn't play 'pretty soccer' and making all kinds of excuses. The US men complaining about field conditions and crying when they had to rely on OTHER nations to try to propel them into the qualifying group. The Belgian game was played in a cow pasture. Come on. Own the responsibility. We lost because we played like sh*t and we develop like shit. It is a politicized, pay-to-play system that is 'team centric'. Maybe those of us who have been around the sport for 30+ years seem cynical. That's because we hear the same excuses year after year after year. The decades bleed together. |
Amen. We played 10 games and only won 3. We finished send to last. 5th out of 6 teams. Luck, refs, crowd support, field conditions, ... had nothing to do with it. The player pool isn't good enough. The coach was at the same level - Good by MLS standards but nowhere near global standards (JK wasn't eitje, FWIW). The people running this sport in this country are a bunch of clueless, self-interest, idiots. Gulati must go! |
| Now this is a good article: https://www.topdrawersoccer.com/world-cup-articles/us-soccer-failures-has-an-easy-fix_aid43012 |
There's an big difference between an easy fix, and an obvious fix. Pro/rel is an obvious fix, but it's certainly not easy to implement. I'm sure that there isn't an current owner that would allow it...why would they risk a massive financial hit? MLS could require that new owners buy into it, but I'd imagine prices would tank, and it would take forever until the new owners are in the majority. So doable? Maybe. Easy? Heck no. |
|
soccer is a dead sport here, face it, it isn't going to get better, it is a slow drawn out game with a bunch of fake injuries tons of controversy.
even in europe, the quality of play is watered down, the crowds are obnoxious and it is right up there with cycling as a sport that is filled with fraud. |
It shouldn't be up to MPS, or their franchise owners. Pro/rel isn't a league decision, it's a US Soccer Federation decision. If MPS doesn't like it, they can always opt out. They just wouldn't get the Fed's D1 sanction. |
And you'd have to build up a new first division from scratch, essentially. Again, possible...but far, far from easy. |
I didn't hear or see any complaining last night. Just the acceptance that they didn't get it done. No one I saw even brought up the phantom goal in Panama. |
