Conducting an unscientific poll....
If you're 45+, do you still drink? Have you cut back? Either for medical reasons, to lose weight or just lost the taste for it? I work in marketing and if my audience is mid-lifers to Seniors, I can't help but think bottomless booze isn't a selling point anymore. What say you DCUM - Fifty and Over forum? |
I've cut back. I was a fairly big drinker back in the day, and I still enjoy the taste, but I find that now I'm more likely to get heartburn, or feel hungover-ish from a second glass of wine, or generally find the aftereffects more difficult to deal with. Sad, but is what it is, unfortunately. |
Still drink and I am 53.
Not as much and not for nearly as long. I am divorced and dating and normally only have one or two glasses of wine on date over the course of an evening. |
My husband and I are 47. We still drink as do all of our friends but we are, and always have been, the one drink a couple times a week type of drinkers.
My parents and in-laws (all in their 70s) have not changed their drinking habits over the years. They, too, like a glass of wine with dinner. |
51. Yes, sometimes. I do not drink nearly as much as I did during my younger days. I think that people naturally cut back on alcohol as they get older. That's pretty typical.
I'm not sure what you mean about bottomless booze. You mean like on a cruise ship or all inclusive resort? Because in that sort of situation I think that I would tend to drink more than normal on at least one night. |
Yes, we still drink but yes we have cut back. Rarely drink during the week, and drink less when we are drinking. The friends who have always been drinkers continue for the most part, and those who drank little when younger have basically given it up. |
That makes sense. You still want to be able to perform. |
I no longer drink (as of 8 months ago) for medical reasons. Its been tough, since I like wine. But, I like living better. |
Not much. I stopped drinking in my 40s for health / weight reasons. In my 50s I now have an occasional drink a couple times a month, but that's it. |
My 95 year old grandmother drinks. I don't know any casual drinkers who stopped. Several friends stopped for a while to test if health "indicators" would improve. They didn't so they went back to drinking. |
Never was a big drinker, but still have the occasional glass of wine, or a cocktail or two when out with friends. 45, F. |
Yes, we are a bunch of lushes. |
I never binge drink anymore, which I used to occasionally do in my 20s. Bottom line is I no longer like getting "drunk" and will avoid it all costs. It just feels terrible - during and after. I would say most of my friends are similar. Getting really drunk as an older person is just a really, really bad look.
I still have 1-2 drinks socially a couple times a month. Or if the mood strikes, I'll buy a bottle of wine and have a glass per night over 4-5 nights. |
We are a 61 year old couple and we have always enjoyed our drinks.
Typically we don't drink during the week, maybe 1 on one weekday night at the most. Weekends are another matter. Usually 2 drinks (Manhattans) Friday night, possibly a glass of wine with dinner. Saturday night is date night, which means 1 cocktail at the bar and then we split a bottle of wine with a nice dinner. We don't get drunk but there is a buzz. Normally by the time dinner is over, followed by coffee, we are in good shape. Despite the above, I can't remember the last time I was drunk. It's been more than a decade. |
I quit when I started taking Meloxicam. For obvious reasons. |
