Do all admit decisions go out at the same time?

Interesting that some of the AISGW schools are also members of AIMS, which the Baltimore schools belong to. The Baltimore schools are allowed to call at 10 a.m. on Feb. 17.

I think a lot of what the Baltimore schools do is based on being competitive with the Catholic schools, which used to notify earlier and actually had a contract due date before the independent schools even communicated their decisions.

Virtually all DC independent schools and DC-area Maryland independent schools are members of both AIMS and AISGW. There are very few schools between DC and Baltimore that have equal allegiances to the Baltimore and DC markets; I can think of only one or two at most.

Notification dates vary around the country; New York, for example, is about four to six weeks ahead of the DC area.

So, any school can decide it is not "practicable" not to call in advance because of tradition (or something like that). Also, depending on when your mail comes, you might know pretty early in the day on Friday through the good ol' USPS.

We're going to be out of town for a family wedding and leaving before March 3rd, won't be back until the 8th. If DC somehow gets into one of the Big 3, et al. -- what are the chances that we get a phone call at home concurrent with Ravenna notifications? Will schools typically leave a message or try to call any alternate phone numbers listed (e.g., cell)? Obviously, I'm not going to notify these schools now of our travel plans, but want to be prepared at least.

Even if you're not back in town until the 8th, you would still have time to make a decision. Other than the pain of not knowing the instant a decision is released, you're not harmed by waiting until the 8th to know the results.

Or can't you just login to Ravenna from wherever you're going?

Of course I can -- sorry for not being clearer with my question before.

My concern wasn't so much about being able to find out whether DC got accepted, but rather about courtesy/being responsive in the event that a school, in addition to notifying by Ravenna and snail-mail, opted to reach out to accepted families by phone as well. If, for example, a school left a message on our answering machine (unfortunately one that cannot be checked remotely) on 3/3, we wouldn't find out about it until 3/8 and run the risk of seeming rude/non-responsive.

Of course, my question is moot if schools that call typically don't leave messages on the home phone and instead try the parents' cell phone next.

Wouldn't worry about it. If you're in, you're in. Schools are not going to fuss because you don't return a phone call immediately.

Do schools still notify by actual snail mail? For some reason I have only been focusing on Ravenna/email...

They didn't do that last year. I believe it was a Tuesday last year, definitely not a weekend because I was at work when they called my cell (and it was for a sibling).

2 years ago GDS sent the acceptance emails out a number of hours before the rejections and holy crap was this board one depressing place as those that didn't get in realized what was going on. Hopefully they will now send them all at once and have people login to the portal.

I think typically call day before actual "official" day but not sure when they will do it this year.

Last year, a couple of days before notification day, Field wrote to all applicants and said that they had fallen behind in reviewing files and would be four days late in sending decisions. Pretty crazy. Most families made decisions before Field sent.
