I am trying to start meditation. I'm terrible at building habits so want to start small (like 5 mins or less a day). I prefer listening to a guide vs just meditating on my own. I'm trying to use it to reduce insomnia, reduce anxiety, and improve concentration. Also to help with acceptance of change (new role at work, pregnancy...). Are there any favorite apps or tracks? Thanks |

Headspace is a good place to start, and I like "Stop, Breathe, Think"
Its great that you're trying to start small. And it may be hard to focus and get into it even for 5 minutes. It is for me! What's most helped me is listening to podcasts from meditation teachers and going to group meditations occasionally. Those things have helped me have the capacity to meditate and "chill" on my own. IMCW.org is a really great resource - they have local classes and also beginner meditations and intro to meditation guides. good luck! |
Go see Tara Brach on Wednesdays in Bethesda - wonderfully skilled teacher:

Best apps:
Headspace Calm Stop, Breathe, Think I second Tara Brach. |
Metta meditation
http://www.mettainstitute.org/mettameditation.html The Zen of Recovery is a terrific book for learning to meditate. It's directed towards recovering alcoholics, but the instructions on how to meditate are wonderful and useful for anyone. |
Thanks for the suggestions all! sadly I moved from area recently so can't go to the in person recommendations. I welcome others though! |
Bahahahaha! LOVE this!!! BEST one! |
