This kinda sounds like a prank, especially if it just started recently. |
When I first moved into my neighborhood, I would gather up the carts and take them back to the store. Mostly, because they were always in the alley behind my house, but I also wanted the locals to see me cleaning up their mess. I got tired of doing it after about a year and gave up. These folks are just the worst! |
You must live in "PG County" |
I live in SF and every shopping cart has a lock that engages when the cart reaches a certain point x number of feet away from the store.
The homeless people here have those granny carts, or old shopping carts from the 90's or strollers they've repurposed. |
Only Shoppers, no? |
even the homeless are hipsters in SF, lol |
The grocery store by my house has sensors on their shopping carts so if someone attempts to take the cart off the property, then the wheels automatically lock up.
I think every business should invest in their lead. There is nothing else a store can do aside from hiring an on-site security guard to man the carts daily. |
Same thing here in Fairfax. Store would not pick up cart left in our yard. I had hoped maybe "someone" heading in the direction of the store would roll it back, but nope. Went out on a cleanup day when all garbage is accepted. |
Target in Wheaton Plaza does that also. |
people w/o cars (like me) can invest in a cart of some kind, a nice quality backpack and some reusable bags. I have a good backpack and a Burley Travoy and panniers that I can use when I'm on my bike. If I were desperate, I could use uber. If someone is flat broke, I can see where even those items would be a luxury. |
I saw some traffic cones from WalMart in Jordan once. As in the country of Jordan. |
You would think that someone would notice a person pushing bright orange carts through the neighborhood. How is this happening so frequently w/o anyone knowing who is doing it?
Is it possible that kids are taking the carts and then using them for some type of "race" or stunt at night? |
It is a strategy to keep prices down. You can always ask the cashier to give you some change or lend you a quarter. |
Safeway's carts have the locking mechanism as well. The last two times I've been there, they've locked up in the lobby area before I even got outside. I saw plenty of carts in the parking lot so not sure why these were locking up so soon. |
