Moving to England

What exactly would the process be?

Especially if I want to move to a cottage in a small old town (or the countryside) for a year?

Do you have an UK/I passport? You don't just up and move to another country.

Besides, England is in a downturn now. The Brexit vote last week, and their football team sucks. They just got their asses handed to them by Iceland of all teams and are out of the Euro 16.

My passport is expired but I can get one. Obviously I am not leaving tomorrow.

I am cool with Brexit, I can work from home, actually- dont need to get a job in England.

I make my money in the US so actually the plunging pound would benefit me.

I dont care about soccer.

You're a US Citizen? No problem. Just go. You'll have to leave periodically and re-enter to make sure your tourist visa remains valid. Get an international driver's license, make sure your health insurance is good in the UK.

You can't really work there. Provide goods and services in the UK and/or receive money for payment for work done, but if you're paid in the US in dollars that shouldn't be a problem. You may have issues opening a UK bank account or getting a UK credit card (KYC can be a problem). Don't expect a US tax break and you could be subject to UK taxes.

If you want to be legit, go and find out whether you score enough points to be granted a work visa. Depends upon profession, education and income.

You will need to pay tax in the UK if residing there, wherever you might be working.

Just go for six months on a tourist visa and work from wherever you're staying. Six mo the is visa limit. Don't tell them you'll be working from home. You'll have to prove the ability to support yourself, possibly bank statements if you're going to be there a long time, and you'll have to prove you're leaving... Have proof of plane ticket out.

You'll need a hell of a lot more than that, Ducky.

That's completely illegal and is considered a violation of your tourist visa.

Do it!!! I'm a dual UK citizen and have lived and worked there for many years and it's totally worth it.

She needs a valid work visa if she plans to work while there.
