I would talk to the teacher about it and ask her what other methods of redirection she could use. My son rarely needs a time out at home, so I would be concerned if he was getting them at school. Hope you get an answer!

My ds had a teacher who was time out and negative communication sheet queen. Moms of girls and boys complained that there wasn't much positive. My "favorite" was when she put DS, his best friend, and the kid he thinks is hilarious all together in time out and they she was horrified that they kept giggling and tried to escape.

Our son had a young and inexperienced K teacher (2nd year out of school). We used to get reports home for such terrible offenses as thumb wrestling during circle time and rolling a pencil off the table.

Read "the trouble with boys" by Peg Tyre. Your son is Normal but public elementary education is not designed to be appropriate for little boys. It is designed and delivered by females for female children who are capable of more advanced fine motor skills and sitting still for longer periods of time. Your son is normal, the expectations are NOT.

Try and get him moving before school... Can he walk to school? Walk the dog in the morning? Something to help him burn off a little energy before class will help, especially as he gets a bit older.
