Do You Wear a Bra At Home?

Anonymous
I do wear one and I can't stand how large my breasts have gotten with this pregnancy. Do you take it off to be more comfy or do you always keep it on? Does your DH care at all?

Depends if I bothered to put one on at the beginning of the day. If I'm planning on working from home, I don't always wear one. If I'm going to work, then I do.

But when I get home, if it were to bother me, I would have no problem taking it off. And it never even crossed my mind to wonder what DH thinks about it. (I asked and he doesn't care).

Personally I need the support of a bra, my breasts are too sore for me not to wear a bra. If you are more comfy without a bra, maybe you just have the wrong bra/maybe your bra is too small or something?

I rarely wore a bra before pregnancy because I hate the feel (don't work outside the home, used tank tops or camisoles instead). But I've started resorting to one during pregnancy, as my B cup has grown to a D or DD. Best luck has been with a sports bra or nursing "sleep" bra -- both give more support than going without but are still quite comfortable. (My biggest problem has been that they make me itch!)

As PP mentioned, regular bras don't have to be uncomfortable, but fit is key. And it can be difficult to get the right fit. I do have one regular underwire bra for when support/looks matter -- it's surprisingly comfortable, but finding it took a LOT of experimenting in the dressing room. I tried on 15-20 bras in different styles, band sizes, and cup sizes ... only 1 fit well, and it was not the size I would have guessed.

I stopped wearing a bra altogether at some point during my pregnancy. It just felt to restrictive around my rib cage no matter how many sizes up I went. I don't even bother to wear them out or to work anymore, I just bring a wrap or sweater to cover up. I was so into fashion before this pregnancy and swore I wouldn't 'let myself go' but there comes a point when it's just not worth the misery and comfort really is more important. Besides I'm not spending tons on a full new wardrobe or multiple bras because I do not plan on repeating this experience anytime soon!

I am 24 weeks and my breasts have already grown quite a bit--and I was large to begin with. I am still wearing my pre-preg bras but I did buy a bra extender from motherhood maternity (for something like $2.00). You fasten it to the back of the bra and it gives you more length. My cup size has grown, too, but I find that I don't need to deal with that yet. The extender has worked quite well. I don't want to buy any new ones until I absoutely have to.

I normally take my bra off a couple hours before bed. Like I said, I am large chested so it isn't super comfortable to go long without (unless sleeping). And I haven't even considered if DH cares or not....with all that women go through when pregnant, that is the least of my concerns

Yes, both now and when I was preggo. I'm sort of well endowed and being pregnant only enhanced them. I needed the support. I slept in them too.

If you can get away with it now, lose the bra bc once DC comes, you'll have to wer a bra all the time just to keep the nursing pads in place - otherwise, you'll leak everywhere.

It depends on how your breasts feel. I always go braless at home - the bra bothers me, even during pregnancy and through nursing. But, i was cup A before pregnancy, and it seems i'm somewhere between A and B now that I stopped breast feeding. Was actually hoping to get some cleavage as an indirect consequence - that didn't happen

My c cup breasts got pretty sore during my first trimester but still have not grown much at all (I'm 18 weeks now). I've found that my bras fit me differently now, so I've probably gone from a smaller C to a larger C but this may be more because I've gotten a bit chubbier under the bra area.

I measured myself around the band and bust and, sure enough, still a 34 C. I finally broke down and had a salesperson "fit" me and she also said 34 C. But I have yet to wear a bra that doesn't pinch the crap out of the skin underneath my breasts and I feel like the band is suffocating me. Underwire bras are the worst, but all bras, even soft "sleep" bras bother me under the bustline and around the band.

So I hate wearing a bra, feel like I want to tear it off and burn it (feminist thoughts notwithstanding!) but at the same time, my breasts hurt badly if I go braless so that's not an option. At night I've been sleeping in an extra tight tee shirt and at least that provides a modicum of support without binding. Sports bras and nursing camis haven't worked either. In summary, I'm in bra / boob hell.

maybe try a sleep bra from medela--some support but more comfy around the house.

I tried going without one, but then I just tripped over them.

I'm quite large during this pregnancy too. I find that I'm more comfortable with a bra on! Make sure you've been fitted properly since your new size...it really makes an insane difference in your comfort. Try Sylene's in Friendship Heights/Chevy Chase for a good fitting...get the older woman to help you (can't think of her name right now).

I have an underwire bra for good support when out of the house and a nice soft no wires bra for at home. I also had to invest in a "sleep" bra..really I'm so big no bra is very, very uncomfortable!

If you did get quite big...watch out, going without a bra too much cause more sagging problems later.

Not sure if you were talking to me (bra / boob hell) or OP. Even sleep bras bother me around the house. I've been fitted twice now, and I've tried at least 20 different bras. The best fit for me are Calvin Klein bras, which are comfy for a while and while I'm up and walking around, but the moment I sit down or relax I want to burn them too. Medela sleep bras were not comfy for me...

I will add that at no point am I 100% comfortable in any of bras! I have the same issue many of you are referring to, that the bra feels like it's cutting off circulation or that I can't breath. Even now I have on the underwire and it's digging into me...my latest fun experience is the hooks on the back somehow cut into my skin since I'm using the last row of hooks.

I'm 37 weeks now and I'm measuring 41 weeks...my rapid growth is probably not helping the bra-fit situation; but like the rest of you I refuse to go buy yet another bra! In the search of bra happiness I've purchased at least 5 diff sizes during this pregnancy because I swore I would not add bra-misery to this pregnancy like I did the last one.

Still, I'm not buying another with only 2 weeks until the delivery...I'll wait until the milk is in and despite extreme fatigue and soreness from a c-section will go out sometime within the first two weeks after delivery to be fitted for a nursing bra that fits properly.

Good luck ladies...let us all know if you find some miracle bra that's insanely cloud-soft comfy !
