Then the doors re- open and we all stand awkwardly in the elevator for an extra 15 seconds staring at the idiot who did it while the elevator stopper pretends to be oblivious to who this is inconsiderate and inconveniencing every one else? So annoying! You should have gotten there earlier like everyone else in the elevator did. Plus more elevators are coming - you don't have to get on this particular one!

And, then they go up only one floor. Yes, this is annoying. But, it's one of those things that you have to live with.

Oh myyyy, somebody needs a hobbbbbby!

Related: at my metro station every morning I see people do full on sprints to the elevator -- "Hold that elevator" -- when there are escalators available and working.

Then you can say "oops sorry" as the doors close and you are on your way.

You look like the good guy, and you get to go.

I do this all the time. I waited for the elevator, sometimes for-everrrrrrr and I am the bad guy because some self-important jerk decides it's ok to hold me up? For those that don't think it is a problem, good for you, but for those that get irritated - I don't blame you a bit. If I see a door closing, I wait for the next one. I don't try and stop it mid-close. This shit happens on the metro too.

You can't choose a floor once you're in the elevator, so without knowing what floor you're going to latecomers are better off just calling the next elevator. I no longer feel obligated to hold the door for anyone. Perfect.

Maybe we work together! Everyone in my building hates this system.

OP, you're the inconsiderate one. I bet you're pushing the door close button when you see someone rushing for the elevator. Why do they have to be a lazy fat ass to not want to wait for the next elevator (which in some buildings I've worked in, can take quite a while).

Why doesn't the person rushing to get on the elevator as the doors are closing just wait for the next one? Damn Democrats.

This really annoyed me when I moved to DC, how people would look you right in the eye and not hold the elevator door for you. It made me sad, the rudeness. Why not hold the door? It's the nice thing to do.

Oh I despise them. I would rather wait and take my own elevator than have someone "politely" hold the door so i can shove on a crowded smelly elevator.

It's also the considerate thing to wait ffor the next elevator so as not to inconvenience other people.

I will confess, I've been known to "accidentally" hit the door close button.

I've also heard that if you keep holding the "door close" button, the elevator won't stop at other floors....instant express elevator!

That express elevator shit isn't true.

No. I only mind when people have stinky breath, BO or farts.

Other than that what is 15 seconds more in the elevator?

Anonymous wrote:Ah OP I get it. You are super duper important and those 15 seconds cost you millions. I'm sure your assistant typed out this post for you.

Lol!!!!!

The point is, why wouldn't the person just wait, rather than stick their arm in the door?

To me, the person sticking their arm in is the rude one - they are the one unwilling to wait 15 seconds for the next elevator.

I let the door close and wait for the next one all the time. Would much rather ride alone if possible.

No, but I do hate people who frantically push the Door Close button when they see someone else approaching the elevator. And I hate people (they are usually all the same) who see another person coming, either pretend not to see them or look them straight in the eye, and refuse to hold the elevator. That is way ruder. Both a$$Holes, just different kinds of a$$Holes.
