Anyone Else Hate Human Elevator Stoppers???

Actually, it bothers me too. It disrupts the normal flow of traffic. People who are late should wait for the next green light. Polite people are considerate and do not inconvience others. These societal rules of etiquette apply to driving cars, standing lines, pushing shopping carts, and even entering elevators.

People who regularly fail to follow the basic rues of etiquette are crude.

That extra 15 seconds might have saved you from otherwise walking into the path of an oncoming car an hour later.

If I hear someone coming down the hall I'll quick push the close button.

So annoying! You should have gotten there earlier like everyone else in the elevator did. Plus more elevators are coming - you don't have to get on this particular one!

I'm skinny, and I've done this, too. I don't think this is just fat people. Most of the time when I see someone trying to catch the elevator, I try to hit the open button because it's the considerate thing to do. I try to do unto others... I hope someone would hit the open door button for me if I were trying to catch the elevator, too. I bet you don't let people in your lane either when you drive. You make them go behind you. How inconsiderate of people to make you wait.

It doesn't bug me but I have all sorts of anxiety over when to try to keep the door open. How close is close enough to try to keep an elevator from closing when someone is approaching? A couple of steps? A couple of feet? I don't want to be a jerk and there should be some sort of norm on this .

Skinny people are OK, especially if they are hot and wearing a short skirt.

Someone sticking an arm in the elevator to catch it (and I'll usually help if I can find the right dang button) is perfectly fine with me.

But, what does tick me off is people who stick their arms in the elevator door so as to continue a conversation with someone who just got off. THAT gets me - a kick in the backside and onto the floor, sez I.

Oh wait OP you're an attorney? BY all means, no one should take away those 15 seconds of your life, you are soooo important!

That does annoy me, since we have 6 elevators and it never takes that long for another one to come. Either say "hold the elevator" while the doors are actually still open (which I will do for you) or wait for the next one.

And if you're only going one floor, take the damn stairs.

No. What's worse is working in a building with 16 floors, when a person gets on at 9 and gets off at 10. Walk your lazy ass up one flight of stairs!!

That happened to me the other day at the hospital. I was forced to wait 15 seconds for three children in wheelchairs being treated for cancer. I looked at their emaciated bodies and bald heads and was so annoyed.

OP are you the same person who a couple weeks ago made your VERY IMPORTANT phone call in a random office lobby and happened to be very lucky the police were not called for trepassing?

It must be hard to be that important.

No. In fact, if I'm on an elevator and see someone coming, sometimes I'll stick out my own arm to keep the doors open.

I do this, too.

You asked for this roasting OP. Can't say I am sympathetic.

Here I thought you were going to talk about the folks who hold the doors open to finish a conversation with someone getting off. THOSE people annoy me - if you want to keep talking just step off too and catch another elevator when you're done.

But holding the doors just so someone can get on? Not a problem.
