Persecution of Christians by ISIS

ISIS orders all girls to undergo female genital mutilation. http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/jul/24/isis-women-girls-fgm-mosul-un?CMP=fb_gu

Anyone care about them now? Still the US's fault?

Religious factions in Iraq have been fights for hundreds of years. To blame it on the US is crazy.

Still the US's fault. Absolutely. It formed in 2004 after Hussein was overthrown and the Sunnis forced out of government and the military.

Isis is the direct result of disenfranchising Sunnis in Iraq. We did that.

You are right. Then we also armed them to go after Assad. Double stupidity

Just terrible. 1) ISIS is terrible. 2) The US should never have started that bogus war against Iraq.

Still the fault of the US. We disenfranchised the Sunnis and they have regrouped under ISIS, which has attracted all the Muslim detritus from the rest of the world. These are people even their mothers have a hard time loving. Same happened with al-Qaeda.

And, by the way, the US has NEVER cared about Christians in the Middle East and has actively promoted policies inimical to their interests. So much for caring about minority rights.

Looks like we may have to nuke the whole region for peace and the survival of civilization.

Thought this sounded strange since FGM is almost unheard of in this part of the Arab world...

Since the Islamic State captured Mosul last month, it has burned shops selling alcohol, ordered veils placed over the faces of mannequins in store windows, and implemented discriminatory policies that forced the majority of the city's Christians to flee. You'd think that was dramatic enough -- but a number of apparently false stories about the jihadist group's behavior in Iraq's second-largest city are spreading like wildfire through the Western media.

The latest culprit appears to be U.N. official Jacqueline Badcock, who told reporters on Thursday that the Islamic State had issued a fatwa ordering women to undergo female genital mutilation (FGM). The procedure is quite rare in Iraq -- it is far more common in sub-Saharan Africa -- and not typically something that jihadists demand. As Agence France Press reported, instituting FGM in areas under the control of the Islamic State, which was previously known as the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham, or ISIS, could place 4 million women and girls at risk of undergoing the procedure.

Thankfully, Badcock's claim has been widely debunked by reporters and analysts. NPR's Cairo bureau chief Leila Fadel reported that residents of Mosul, including a doctor and a tribal leader, had not heard of the fatwa. Meanwhile, an alleged Islamic State decree announcing the implementation of FGM was revealed to be a hoax. (The U.N. office in Iraq did not respond to requests for comment on the source of Badcock's claim.)

Didn't John McCain pressure the US to give them weapons to fight Assad in Syria? I guess they have expanded beyond Syria. Another USA fuck up.

Say what you like about Saddam Hussein and Bashar Assad, but Christians and Armenians in Iraq and Syria never had anything to worry about during their rule.

1. The bad conditions now may be resolved peacefully in the future.
2. Nuking the whole region, in addition to mass murder, is genocide.
3. Many of the countries in the region, or some of their powerful allies, could easily retaliate, and nuclear war would happen.

Seems that destroying culture is always one of the first thing these regressive kooks do when they take power. Then it's on to brutalizing everybody who doesn't subscribe to their version of Islam.

Does anyone actually believe Obama is arming ISIS directly, and not moderate rebels? If so, what evidence are you using for your convictions?

That story about FGM is a hoax.

Their destruction of an 1800-year-old church in Mosul is painful, condemnable without exception, and wholly in violation of every Qur'anic principle. In fact, the Qur'an 22:41 specifically commands Muslims to protect Churches from destruction. ISIS must be brought to justice for their crimes against Christians and all humanity. Whatever religion they claim -- it is not Islam
