Yes - he wore a black suit with a white shirt and red tie - looked very handsome! |
Obama was wearing a well-tailored HSM top coat and suit and a red tie. He looked perfect, of course. Jill Biden dresses too young and verges on the inappropriate. It's also completely inappropriate to keep referring to "Vice President and Dr. Biden," which is the way her press people are putting it out there. One doesn't use the academic title of "doctor" socially. At least I don't, and Miss Manners will back me up on that. It's also inappropriate given her role in the administration, which is purely a social one. Her role is that of Vice President Biden's wife. In fact, it's more than a bit ironic given that Dr. Lynne Cheney, who is a real scholar, is known simply as "Mrs. Cheney." I am not at all a fan of Jill Biden. Michelle Obama I love. I didn't think the outfit for the inaugural ceremonies was the most flattering, I admit, and she did seem cold. Walking down Pennsylvania Ave. she seemed to be freezing. But I like her very much and I think the girls are adorable. |
Love love love the Obamas.
But agree Michelle's dress didn't seem appropriate for a day event -- too sparkly and didn't fit well. Didn't like the rhinestone thing around her neck. Girls were perfect! Looking forward to her ball gown(s). |
I thought the whole family looked great! I loved Michelle's dress. So much more interesting to look at than Laura Bush's 150th incarnation of the same suit. |
I did not like the dress, she looked awful. The girls were beautiful and Mr. President awesome. |
I think she looked polished and stunning. Her girls were delightful and beyond precious. The whole family is adorable. Sasha giving dad the thumb's up was priceless. Will love watching this family the next 4-8 years. |
The poster who thinks Jill Biden dresses too young is either stupid or painfully old-fashioned. She looks fabulous and chic. With her looks and body she can carry off outfits women half her age can. She was not showing off anything inappropriate. It was not too short or too tight. What's your problem?
You must be of the "once a woman passes 40 she has to dress dumpy and frumpy" crowd. No thanks. If I still have it at that age, I plan to flaunt it. |
Michelle's dress was OK, the coat should have been designed so it could close.
Laura's was nicely styled, but the color was hard to take. Biden's wife's coat was too crayola red, heels too high on boots (affected her walk), coat a bit too short. |

I thought Michelle looked beautiful today and the girls are just adorable. The whole family is just pathetically cute, really. I also think it will be fun to watch this family in the coming years. I feel like we just got a rock star as our president!

The Bidens are cheeseballs. They must own a tanning bed and get their teeth/vaneers whitened regularly. Of course she wore knee-high boots with a short skirt. That is the cheesy woman's uniform. |
Both ladies were quite a vibrant change, I think. When I saw Michelle, I thought majestic. When I saw Mrs. Biden, I thought fashionista. I like it when women strut a unique style of their own. |
Hear this the right way. . .this thread is where we are spending our collective energies tonight? How the first family was dressed?
Come on people. Let's discuss something that is meaningful. How about how we felt today? And how to explain that feeling to our children? |
Actually, this is the only place I've addressed their clothes. Aside from that, I teared up several times, and prayed Obama would help bring about the change we need, and how badly I, and many others are feeling the economy and the war right now. I was moved by his speech, my two oldest watched and eagerly asked questions about Obama. It felt great to witness such a historic event with my family on a Tuesday afternoon...even if it was from our living room instead of the mall. |
I agree with this post. The whole time we were watching, I thought it was funny that my husband said Joe Biden looked like a used car salesman. They are sort of cheesey - not classy. Her outfit was not appropriate for the events / nor her super high heeled boots for the parade walk. The Bidens remind me of the Gores. Cheesey and just sort of there looking for a purpose. |
