It was my understanding that Many Waters was time/dimensional travel with the twins. Going back to the Great Flood |
We've done a lot of read alouds at our home - we each take a turn reading a few pages. My kids didn't care for Wrinkle in Time but I don't think it was because we read it aloud or that it was above their reading level or anything like that. My kids thought that the characters were annoying for some reason and they didn't get into the story. That was surprising to me because I would have thought that the time travel aspect would have been fun for them. At any rate, I think it's a good read aloud book and a fun one to discuss (even if they don't like it). |
| I loved all four of the books and look forward to reading them with my kids when they are older. We are also mainline protestants though. Maybe people didn't like the religious overtone to the books? Good vs Evil, The Universe's love vs. Hate. M. L'E. was a big time Episcopalian and it really came out in her books. |

I love this article on Madeleine L'Engle:

This is me as well. Loved The Dark is Rising as a kid! And while I'm not a big science fiction fan, I love to read time travel novels as an adult, but never could get into A Wrinkle in Time. |
It is, but stands alone as a story. |
