It is immoral and criminal not to reveal HIV positive status before being intimate.

Please don't hide this info.

No, I would not have sex with someone who is HIV positive.

Honestly, I use to think run but I've learned a lot about HIV recently and now I wouldn't really be fearful at all. With current drug regimes, most people have pretty much non detectable viral loads. If their viral load was non detectable both in their blood and semen (it can hide in the genitals even when the blood is clean), then I would be fine with dating them. At least I'd like to think so.

I read an AMA on reddit by a man married to a woman with HIV. They had been married for a long time, had a couple kids and generally lived a completely normal life. It opened my eyes to how much HIV status has changed in the last decade

I think those w/ HIV should only have sex with those with HIV

Do you mean they're HIV positive?

I've never had this happen to me. However, if this is a dating scenario, it would be a deal breaker for me. I would thank them for their honesty but be upfront and say its a deal breaker.

WAY too risky. No way.

Friends, no problem. Being intimate, no.

I dated someone with HIV. As PP said, with the meds nowadays, the risk of transmission is very low (I would still use a condom, though) and the disease itself is more a chronic condition like Diabetes than a death sentence. That said, you have to decide for yourself what you feel comfortable with. Props to your partner for disclosing so early.

If their HIV is well-controlled and virus count is low, they are taking their drugs, and we use a condom, I could totally see myself dating or having sex with someone who is HIV+. The transmission risk is really, really low. The risk is lower in that situation than it is in a random one night stand.

I would probably say no. I think it depends how they got HIV too. Risky behavior, drugs or were they born that way?

This is why it's important to disclose early in the relationship and well before sex happens. People need to be able to call it off early. As the HIV+ person, you need to know if it's going to be an issue for a future partner before you invest a lot of time in them.

How does that have anything to do with it? I guess you have never done anything risky before? Had unprotected sex? Done any drugs? Texting while driving?

Must be nice to be the only saint among us.
