I don't consider all those foods African American. I like mac and cheese, cornbread, potato salad. My husband would eat all of that but he'll eat pretty much anything you put in front of him.

All of those foods are part of traditional African American cuisine. Many of them also appear in other cuisines. Kind of how rice is common in Japanese cuisine and also in the cuisine of Senegal.

OP, I love soul food, or most of it anyway. Of your list, I am not a fan of candied yams.

White middle aged guy here. Grew up in New England. I didn't grow up with soul food (obviously, I suppose), but I sure love it now. In moderation since so much of it is high-fat, esp. if traditionally prepared. I don't necessarily think of it as soul food, but as foods I came to love while I lived in the south (during and after college).

Some foods more than others. I'm just OK with fried chicken and mac and cheese, but I really love fried fish, red beans and rice, collards, cornbread, southern BBQ, among others.

I've never had chitlins or pigs feet, and I'm curious. I'm enthusiastic about all foods and would like to try them so I know what they are (and might like them). But when I've seen them on the menu at places like Fla. Ave. Grill, I've been shy about ordering them. Something about not wanting to be That Liberal White Guy Who Looks Like He's Trying Too Hard.

Is there a reason you are asking? Is this market research? Just curious?

I live food from all different cultures.

I love fried chicken and BBQ. I can't eat fried chicken often because it is bad for you. I love collards but I make them myself. I like to go out to eat for food I can't make at home... Fried chicken... But I normally take it to go.

I consider them southern food. African Americans from NY or Chicago would not consider most food you mentioned aa food.

That's probably why the OP asked "do you like soul food", and not "do you like African American food?" I think most AA's in NY or Chicago who went to a "Soul Food" restaurant would expect to see these items or similar items on the menu. It doesn't mean that it's what they serve every day in their homes.

White Midwesterner here - heck yes I love soul food. However I lived in a predominantly AA neighborhood in Cleveland for many years and I learned to make a lot of foods like okra, collard greens, and certain cuts of meat because they were commonly on sale at my closest grocery store or I had them at neighbor's houses and asked for a recipe.
