Belly Button Piercing

My daughter is 12 and wants her belly button pierced. She wears a lot of gold jewlery and enjoys showing it off. Is 12 too young? Her school do not mind if its a stud.

I had mine done when I was 15, without parental permission. I do think 12 is too young. Children now (thanks to helicoptering parents) seem a lot less mature these days than a generation prior.

Something to consider is if she gets her navel pierced, will she then want to wear shirts that show that off? What kind of attention will that attract? Is she prepared to deal with that? Because it comes from men WAY too old, girls who are her peers, AND girls who are older than she is. Even if she were aware of all those possible reactions and had a plan for dealing with them, I'd STILL probably say to wait a couple of years.

Why would school mind does she walk around all day at school with her midriff out?

Naval piercings tend to get infected even with the most careful cleaning. I would definitely wait until she's older.

Honestly don't let her do it. It screams low class. She will be unfairly judged. Plus, it carries a slutty connotation because if a girl has her belly button pierced she's obviously going to want to show it off by wearing belly shirts.

Way too young. Please discourage this. It really is disgusting.

I am over 40 an am seriously considering getting one. I love that it draws attention away from a wide mid section and makes a person look thinner

I had mine pierced for 10 years and did not ever wear belly shirts. The only people who saw it were boyfriends or people at the beach.

LOL, no it doesn't!
I did 200 crunches every day for half a year before I got my navel pierced, and swore to myself that if my stomach got chubby I'd take it out.

I am a middle aged woman with great abs because I do crunches and I would never, ever pierce my belly button. Draw attention to it? There's nothing ickier than a middle aged woman dressing like a teen. Plus, trust me, after two pregnancies there's no way even crunches can put humpty dumpty back together again. No one wants to see your mid-riff Ms. 40 year-old.

OP are you looking forward to your 12 yo daughter wearing half shirts or are you more happy for her to be able to show it off in a bikini or maybe just to her boyfriend? Are you actually considering this? 12 yo children live with their parents for many reasons, one of which s because they do not have great decision-making skills.
