I'm 18 weeks pregnant and have gained about 10 lbs thus far and am wondering of the weight gain is connected to the hip pain. |
Try a body pillow?
Mine didn't hurt when I was pregnant, but I also night-nursed for a long time. Now it still is uncomfortable for me to lay on my left side and my DC is 3. Try and do some prenatal yoga and walk a lot to stay limber as well. |
From what I've read and been told it's because your hip joints are loosening so the baby will be able to pass through. Stretching before bed has helped me a lot - I try to do it while I'm sitting around watching tv after dinner then again right before I go to bed. A pillow also helps when it's really bad. In addition to putting one between my legs I also slip a pillow under that hip for extra cushion. |
Yes, mine hurt when I lay on one side all night. When I wake up the side I'm laying on hurts and I have to turn over. My guess is its a combination of the extra weight and loosening joints. |
Weight gain can be part of it. Though for me, when I finally gained more weight I was sinking in the bed more, so I didn't need the pillow as much.
My hips are I think 3 or 4 inches wider now than they were pre-pregnancy. But my shoulders haven't gotten wider. So the proportions are also all off. |
Mine! For me though it the opposite hip (if i am on my right side, after a while my left hurts). Not sure you are going thru the same thing.
I just end up in my back. Body pillow made it too difficult to roll over. And it was warm. I find a regular pillow next to me that I can "hug" helps my overall alignment. In my yoga class, a few people have said that Hip openers before bed have helped with the pain. It can also be displaced lower back pain (according to yoga instructor) so stretching might help! Good luck! |

Get a thick foam mattress topper if you and your husband can stand the extra heat. It's the only thing I have found that prevents the hip pain without constant pillow fiddling. |
Find a chiropractor who does the Webster technique. Not only do your joints loosen up, but nerves can be pinched. Agree that a mattress topper is great but they can be really stinky and need to air out. Also a good body pillow can help. |
Yes especially on the left |
I put a foam mattress topper on and I got a much thicker pillow for between my knees, so my knees were same width as my hips - bought me a few more weeks |
Mine went away right after delivery -thankfully !

To the PP who said the top hip hurt, try putting a pillow between your knees. That can make a big difference. |
Yes, this really helps! |
Hell yes! Pillow between the knees helps. |
