Soon to be FTM and I'm shopping around for a great baby sling. The Moby seems popular, but the reviews state that it's really complicated. I prefer a sling initially, over a carrier such as the Baby Bjorn. Thanks for any suggestions! |
The baby kitan |
I used a Baby Bjorn for going out when baby was bigger. Baby was big enough for it around 4 weeks old.
For home, I used a Kangaroo Korner sling pouch. Baby was in it right from birth and could be positioned in a couple of ways. It was a lifesaver. I could put her chest to chest and doze off while propped up on the couch. Must easier to move around the house and get things done with baby in pouch. |
Borrow one and try it out first. Personally, I hated slings. I had 2 and never found them to be comfortable. I much referred the moby and ergo. The moby appears more complicated than it really is after you do it once you're set. Only negative is it gets hot in summer. |
Hot sling
Ergo (or another SSC like Beco) mei tais |
Baby Bjorn Sport
The Peanutshell Sling- I was at a pool party and a woman had her 3 month old sleeping in one the whole time and he didn't mind at all. Looks more comfortable for really little ones than a traditional carrier. |
Hotsling.
With my first, I didn't get a stroller because I used the Hotsling so much. Easy to learn, and phenomenal for traveling, shopping, etc. |

Does anyone's husband have a sling they like Morgan those you like? My DH really wants one but I wasn't sure there was a difference between which ones men prefer to women. He has carried his monster nephew in a bjorn before but I have heard women aren't as favorable to the bjorn.
(they all seem too hot right now when I see people use them!) |
My husband used the Bjorn, and sometimes the Moby at home. I didn't mind the Bjorn when our daughter was really little.
We've since acquired a Boba and a Maya sling, so I'll probably give those a whirl with our second. My husband loves the Boba, so I'm sure he'd try that with our second, too. SO much more comfortable than the Bjorn. |
I wanted so much to like Hotsling, because it was easy, washable and had a cute pattern. But it did not work out for me. ![]() |

Fitted pouch slings are so hard to get sized right (and proper fit is key to safety and comfort). I really liked that DH and I could both use the same ring sling and easily adjust the fit to his size or mine. We had a Maya Wrap and used it all the time for the first three months, then switched to something similar to an Ergo. |
Is it recommended to just wait until you have the baby for a few weeks and try them out? Or how did you come to decide? I have been told the ergo is good, but it's expensive so it seems odd to blindly buy it, but also odd to be without one right away (a sling/carrier of any kind). Any advice on this? |
PP again from above: One of my husband's coworkers gave us their (gently) used Bjorn for free, and I got the Moby as a shower gift. Bought the Boba after extensive research when our daughter was 8 months old, and the Maya sling for $10 off a neighborhood listserv. I do think there's an organization that will let you try them on, Beltway Babywearers maybe? I'd try to get something cheap/used to have right away, and you can try things on with baby to see what you like. And hi, JinDC! Poppy here. :^) |
