What to wear to Disney?

Anonymous
Would love advice on what to wear to Disneyland in June with the family. It feels like the only option is shorts, tshirt, running shoes and good socks...and I'm looking into some kind of travel wallet or belt to carry around money/tickets so I don't have to carry a purse. We'll have a diaper bag we leave with the stroller.

Any been there, done that pieces of advice on this?

I've only been to WDW, so I can't speak to weather, but I'd vote for something that's comfortable in the heat, stain resistant, doesn't get see through when wet, and dries quickly. Plus really comfortable shoes. Shorts and a shirt, a sun dress, whatever you want. I might choose one day to dress up slightly and get a nice family picture with Mickey, but by dress up slightly I mean a shirt with no spit up stains on it and the shorts that don't make me look fat.

We stayed on site and they gave us a card that had tickets, dining points, room key, and charging privileges on it. All I carried was that, and my cell phone which is also a phone. I put them in a ziploc (in case of water rides), and stuffed them in my pocket with a second ziploc full of wet wipes. I didn't carry anything else. Of course if you drive you'll also need car keys, and if you're staying off site you'll need a credit card since you won't be able to charge from your ticket. If your kids still need need a diaper bag and stroller you'll need more, but those were the only things that were of enough value that I wouldn't leave them with a stroller.

It's probably going to be really, really hot.

I wear button down short-sleeve shirts and wore them with nice shorts. I usually get them at least one size too large They looked like tents on me, but they didn't touch my skin and let a lot of air circulate. They also dried quickly when they got wet. T-shirts cling and stick to you and don't dry as quickly.

If you don't want to wear sneakers, Tevas or other sport sandals are great. You want something that will support your feet. It's a lot of walking.

It's a "Key to the World" card. I put that and my id in my pocket. I also carry a phone and my camera. No purse.

June is hot. As someone who sweats profusely in the heat, I typically wear one of the polyester shirts with a fancy name (I get mine from LL Bean called Cool Max, but there are many brands) marketed as a moisture wicking material. I sweat, it absorbs it keeps my skin cool and evaporates the sweat quickly. Also make sure to wear light colors. Also good to have head covering because one of the most common mistakes is not covering the head and getting sunburned (yes, even through your hair) on top. Lots of sunscreen and good comfortable shoes that you can walk for hours in (because you will).

For possessions, if you need, we use light fanny packs, but my wife also sometimes uses one of those small hip pouches the can go over the shoulder and hang on the opposite hip. She likes this because when necessary, she can move it directly in front of her and hang onto it. She uses a smallish one that just has the few necessities for the park.

Are you going to Disneyland in California or Disney World in Florida?

Just wear whatever you'll be most comfortable in in the heat, walking around, going on rides, chasing kids, etc... Believe me when I say that it's not the place to worry about being fashionable. Go for comfort.

Nude. Defintely nude. And don't let the people at the gate scare you with their threats and their thick-necked security guards and their dragging you off the property and all. They're always looking for a good laugh.

Now you REALLY need sunscreen!

We went last year in June, and I also wondered what to wear. Funny enough I spent last night looking at photos, so I can tell you I wore either t-shirt or light cotton shirt every day with shorts.

I live in the city and am used to walking, and did NOT want to wear tennis shoes every day, so I didn't - unlike nearly everyone else. I wore comfortable sandals with a bit of a heel (a heel in that they weren't totally flat and non supportive, not a high heel!) and had no problems. We probably averaged 8 miles a day, I bet, and there is a lot of standing.

I used a small cross body bag - I wanted to bring hats for the kids, and wipes for cleaning off, and camera, phone, etc. It was a messenger style, but not at all full size, and like a PP said, the beauty of cross body is you can carry it on your hip, or in front, or behind. And because it was a messenger style, my husband could carry it too, so it was out all purpose bag.

It rained 4 out of 5 afternoons, so quick drying and easy is your mantra. Have fun - we had a blast.

Not really, I think the Disney jail cells are well shaded.

Definitely get matching neon green t-shirts (and maybe hats?) for your whole family to wear so you can easily spot each other in the crowd.

Visors are a nice option to keep the sweat and sun out of your eyes.

Fanny packs are a must.

Bright white sneakers are a nice touch too.

Hats. With ears. And maybe your name embroidered on the back.

We're going to WDW in July and I've also been planning on what to wear. I bought a lightweight backpack from Eddie Bauer for my wallet, camera, water bottles and other misc stuff. I don't think a fanny pack will be big enough. We will have strollers for our 4 year olds, but I don't want to lug them down too much with bags.

I plan on wearing shorts or skorts with lightweight cotton sleeveless t shirts and I'm looking for comfy and cute sandals - I don't do sneakers outside of the gym and find them really hot in the summer and I want a sandal that can get wet if it rains or if we do water stuff. I'm still looking for this shoe.

I guess I'll bring a visor, sunscreen and sunglasses.
