Recommend OB at GW?

Anonymous
Hi there - Does anyone recommend a particular OB at GW? We've been patients at the GW IVF clinic and feel comfortable staying there for our OB. I'd prefer someone who's supportive of natural birth, but I after all the weird reviews of the midwives there, I don't feel that it's necessary to join their ranks. So far I've heard good things about Larsen's supportiveness of going natural... any thoughts on Keller? Anyone else?

Thanks!

I was GW IVF (yay for GW success!) and have my OB appointment with Metz tomorrow - I'll report back, but I picked her based on the recommendations here on another thread.

I like Dr. Smith. I also did IVF and she has been very willing to get me in for a little extra monitoring/ultrasounds which has eased the transition from the heavily involved style of care you get with an RE and the more laid-back, hands-off approach that I found with OB care. I also like going to the M street location (I drive so I don't care that it is farther from the Metro). It is a much quieter, calmer waiting room experience than the MFA building.

this is what I worry about (sorry to thread jack) - I'm going to bring this up with Metz....given the high emotional/physical/financial cost of IVF, I'm hopeful that she'll understand.

Absolutely LOVE Dr Keller! She is very open, honest and attentive.

Looking forward to hearing what you discover, jindc. I agree that having a doctor who "gets" IVF and everything we've been through to get to this point would be immensely helpful.

Dr. Larson

Had a natural birth. I like both Dr. Keller and Dr Gaba - slight edge to Gaba.

I saw Dr. Smith and loved her. I was not an IVF patient, but I was very anxious and she was very kind and calming. No idea about her stance on drug-free birth because I wanted all the drugs I could get, but I get the feeling all of the OB and LD nurses are open to that kind of thing. Dr. Larson delivered me and he was great as well.

She was great - the 2300 M St location is great (well, a little pain in the butt getting there with all the road construction - I took the Circulator and walked up to M), it's not very busy and I was seen pretty close to on time.
She's very sweet and just had a baby herself 8 months ago, so she knows what she's talking about and what you're going through.
She explained stuff to us, but because I had already done a "preconception appointment" at Sibley, a lot of stuff wasn't new to me so I skipped it and asked my questions.

But still, no extra monitoring I go back in a month and have my NT scan then as well. She recommends it for everyone, even if you won't do anything about your pregnancy because information is power. She does rotate and there is a chance she wont deliver you, but at 34 weeks she recommends making your weekly appointments with the other docs to get to know them. I'm fine with that - I don't really need her to deliver me, I seem to be less concerned about child birth than a lot of people (maybe because of what it took to get pregnant?)

The office staff was fine and I'll tell you, it was the most painless blood draw I ever had - and this is coming from IVF where I had my blood drawn almost every day.

I recommend her, or at least the 2300 M St location. But, the caveat is I don't have much to compare her to because I never really had an OB before (my GP did all that). I wasn't put off by her at all, she didn't lecture me about weight, and I felt I could talk to her about my concerns. And she laughed at my DH's "I'm uncomfortable in here" jokes. heh

I had my first with Macri after 3 years of IVF and he was great about understanding what we had gone through. For example, he didn't push amnio at all - he didn't want to do anything that might risk our hard earned pregnancy. He was perfect for me after all the stress of IVF because he is a nice, friendly, happy guy. He has a lot of experience, which I think makes him pretty relaxed when everything is going well. So if you want a doctor that will freak out with you, he is not the one for you.

Love Dr. Sheth! I see her in Bethesda. I find the satellite offices to be more quaint and calm.
