Sorry to hear about skin freak outs! I am sure the weather changing every 5 minutes isn't a help. Can you get a facial? Blue Mercury gives decent samples!
Barre class: the only thing I recommend if you don't want to do it barefoot is a pair of grippy socks like from lulu or under armor. Then you won't slide on the wood floor. And water (though they have it there). They have everything else. Wear anything comfortable - yoga pants and a top. I am totally unflexible and not graceful at all but I could still do it - it pretty welcoming and the instructors correct you as the class goes. I think the big difference will be no ab work in the pregnant class (which is good cuz that sucks!). No video required. If I can do it (well, pre-ivf me), anyone can! Same with yoga. Avoiding sugar until. Get the GD test results. It isn't easy! Chobani, protein bread, gonna have veggie chilli tomorrow. No fun at all ![]() |
Wavy here!
JinDC, I'm so impressed with your tremendous pre-preg weight loss, and your continued efforts to manage your weight and health throughout pregnancy. It's certainly hard. My hat's off to you, and I agree with everything the others have said thus far. Good luck on the GD results! Veggie chilli sounds amazing! DH and I had grilled chicken and lemon/olive oil/red chili flake broccolini last night, and it was so good! I've been trying to eat more healthy and buy fresh produce from farmer's markets, and keep it on hand so that I'm not as easily reaching for that mint choco chip ice cream! You can do it! You are inspiring me to do better. I went to prenatal barre yesterday! I think it was their first ever class, so it was a little slower since Jenna the instructor wanted to take her time to ensure everyone fully understood the modifications and had the correct form. From what I understand, moving forward it should be faster-paced. I was a fairly regular barre-er pre-pg (but by NO means a hot fitness chick), and will plan to go to both prenatal and regular barre classes (but do the modifications). To be honest, I didn't break a sweat at all in yesterday's class, and that is not at all normal for me, because I usually sweat up a storm and find the regular classes very challenging. But like I said, moving forward, they will probably be more rigorous. I think it would be a great class for people of all levels to attend and do recommend it since it is meant for all trimesters too. Most women that attend wear lulu gear; tank tops, tights, grippy socks. I get by with the grippy socks bc I don't mind barefoot. Make sure you bring water! Or you can pay $1 for bottles of water they have there. No prev experience or video research necessary. I should be there again next Sunday! I have done the Tranquil Space prenatal yoga class before (with my last pregnancy) and have not found it as challenging, simply because it focused more on stretching and poses rather than the muscle-toning aspect that barre has to offer. |
Wavy here: I meant "withOUT" the grippy socks! doh! |
So glad to hear you went, wavvy! Was the class busy?
Jenna is a hard instructor, so it's good she took it slow (even if some regulars were frustrated) because new people can get discouraged. er: Tranquil Space - to be fair, the room was a little warm, and I wan't covered...but I definitely had some boob/temple sweat going on! The wall squats, plank to downward facing dogs, etc weren't easy but I had never done yoga so I'm sure I was using things that had gone unused for a while! The stretching felt pretty awesome, but I think there's more stretching in barre. I can't go to either this weekend (hello, Philadelphia!) but once we're home, I'll make it a more regular thing to attend barre! Those steps + pregnant belly are probably difficult! |
Jindc, why are you being tested for GD in the first tri???? I've never heard of that. |
Jindc: class was pretty busy! It was fuller than I expected, maybe about 15 moms. Jenna IS typically a hard instructor (she is pregnant too! did you know? i didn't), but I think she really wanted to be careful with both preggos and new members in the room.
When I did Tranquil Space prenatal yoga last round I DEFINITELY sweated! The room is warm, and class is not EASY at all, I just think that full-scale prenatal barre will probably be more challenging for me than TS prenatal yoga. |
sorry, that was me, Wavy! |
because of my weight (nevermind my weight history, just my current weight....sigh) |
Yikes! |
yep - nothing I can do about it. Before I lost a lot of weight, I went to Sibley for my 'preconception meeting' with a doctor there and she said I'd need an early GS screen, too. But I lost a lot of weight, and even gaining a bunch back, I'm not where I was. Funny how doctors never care about that ![]() But, it is what it is - there are worse things to deal with assuming everything is still fine with the baby when I go in on Wednesday (hopefully) |
Yeah but I can see their point. Because GD and other weight-related issues do affect the baby in a big way. |
I know which is why I'm not really fussing (I mean, I'm frustrated, but not fussing)- just doing what I have to do. Lots of other issues affect baby in a big way, too, outside of weight. But most people don't talk about them or care because you can't see them. (chemicals, food choices, how much you move, etc) |
It has to be frustrating about the GD test but if you look at it another way, it's good that your doctor is on top of it to prevent an issue later. I think it's just routine to do the test during the first trimester based on BMI or a family history of diabetes, and has nothing to do with current diet or exercise. You sound like you're doing way better than most with dieting and exercising so I'm sure all will be fine. Honestly, I think all of the testing in general is overwhelming but I've been glad to find out about issues early (in my case a UTI...ugh). |
jindc, just wanted to say hope all goes well tomorrow at your GD test! I know you won't get the results immediately, but I hope it's not too annoying of an experience. Let us know how it goes!
I hope everyone else is well, too; I'm finally starting to feel like myself again (Zofran aside), and boy, is it welcome! Poppy |
Thanks, Poppy - all done! The drink wasn't as bad as I had expected - it tastes like spoiled gatorade. I did start to feel pretty gross towards the end of the hour, but I was also warm from rushing to get to the doctor on time (stupid K Street Circulator!) and then couldn't drink during that hour. No weight gain between appointments, according to the Doc which was nice to know!
How is everyone else doing? Any milestones coming up? |
