What is the fee range in this region for consulting by someone that has a higher degree, in an intellectual field (like JD, MD, PhD etc). |
Oh I'd say anywhere from $50 to $1000 per hour, give or take. |
It depends entirely on the field, supply and demand, and what prices you think you can command. Seriously, if you don't even know what reasonable rates are for your field, you need to do more research before starting your business. |
I've done a lot of research and came up with a reasonable range but more information can't hurt in preparation ![]() |
Yes, but you've told us nothing. Like a pp said, it can be a wide WIDE range. |
And you think any information you get on this forum from the vague question above will be more useful than your own research? More information can hurt if you don't filter your sources. You want more GOOD information, and this is not a valid way to get it. If you've got a reasonable range based on relevant research, then go with that. You'd need to provide a lot more information here than most people would want to post to get anything useful. |
You make valid points in your last post. I was not asking what should I set my fees , for the reasons you noted. What I wanted to know, and could have phrased a better question for initially was, what fee range have actual consultants on this forum charged or what have individuals who have hired such consultants been charged/paid. |

I charge $200 an hour. If that helps? |
I want to buy something. How much should I expect to pay for it? Thanks. |
LOL! Seriously. |
Yes it does. Thank you for the response. |
Not the right comparison. The original post stated specifically the requirement for a higher degree which excludes many types of consulting. It's still broad but not as much as you are suggesting. Glad that you are both so easily entertained. |
"I want to buy something expensive. How much should I expect to pay for it? Thanks." There, now it isn't as broad, excluding many types of purchases, so it is a more valid comparison. There's still no way the OP can get any useful responses with the information that has been given, which makes both questions equally absurd. |
Ok, NP here. I'll bite. How much should I expect to pay for a computer to do some accounting work? Your answer is still so vague as to be completely unhelpful. You haven't mentioned the field, any specialization or special knowledge (for example, the different in accounting between personal finances, business finances, small corporate finances, non-profit finances, etc are HUGE), whether you've had experience in that field, whether you have a tie in to any particular industry or group of clients (e.g. have you ever consulted in this field with a specific federal agency? Are you targeting that agency as a particular client), whether you have a particular target audience in mind, if your profession uses specialty equipment that you'll need for your job (e.g. a housepainter that has spray painting equipment, scaffolding, etc for bigger jobs can charge more than someone who does all painting only by hand/roller/brush), if your job requires any specialty licensing, clearances, etc. I've put a ton of questions there and that's only the tip of the iceberg. You really need to provide a lot more information otherwise the answers that you're trying to get will be about as much used as putting numbers on a dart board, drinking 10 beers and then firing. |
