I want to buy something. How much should I expect to pay for it? Thanks.
LOL! Seriously.
Not the right comparison. The original post stated specifically the requirement for a higher degree which excludes many types of consulting. It's still broad but not as much as you are suggesting. Glad that you are both so easily entertained.
Ok, NP here. I'll bite. How much should I expect to pay for a computer to do some accounting work? Your answer is still so vague as to be completely unhelpful. You haven't mentioned the field, any specialization or special knowledge (for example, the different in accounting between personal finances, business finances, small corporate finances, non-profit finances, etc are HUGE), whether you've had experience in that field, whether you have a tie in to any particular industry or group of clients (e.g. have you ever consulted in this field with a specific federal agency? Are you targeting that agency as a particular client), whether you have a particular target audience in mind, if your profession uses specialty equipment that you'll need for your job (e.g. a housepainter that has spray painting equipment, scaffolding, etc for bigger jobs can charge more than someone who does all painting only by hand/roller/brush), if your job requires any specialty licensing, clearances, etc. I've put a ton of questions there and that's only the tip of the iceberg. You really need to provide a lot more information otherwise the answers that you're trying to get will be about as much used as putting numbers on a dart board, drinking 10 beers and then firing.
