Dear Moms, Dads, Families, and Friends,

As a bachelors prepared perinatal nurse, I have had the most significant impact on my patients by arming them with education and advocating for their holistic care. The hospital environment, at times, limits my capabilities to reach enough families. I open this forum to you so that I can help, when we're not in the hospital together.

I look forward to discussing any topics you desire. I can offer evidenced based information, and recommendations. For legal purposes, I must disclaim, that any communications are not to replace formal evaluation, assessment, diagnosis, referral, or other recommendation related to seeking and/or receiving care. My presence here is not endorsed by any institution or medical affiliation.

I will enthusiastically respond to forum posts, personal messages (PMs), or direct emails to district.rn@gmail.com.

Hi OB nurse,

That you so much for offering your expertise. I do have a question for you. I am high risk (prior preemie, irritable uterus, contract a lot) and will be followed by a MFM that is really good but I have to find a new OB as well. I am in Maryland and would prefer an OB that delivers at HC or Shady Grove due to rather short labor and likely frequent dr apts. Based on your experience, can you recomment one hospital over the other or any doctors in particular. I had a sole practioner before which I really liked but it appears, at least for HC, that most are large practices for which you have to rotate in the practice and the doctor is not likely to be as familiar with my situation. If this baby does come before 35 weeks, I will likely deliver at Georgetown as my first was delivered there and I was extremely impressed with the NICU so the hospital recommendation would only be if I have a full term delivery.

Thanks so much!

Thank you for offering your time. What books do you recommend? I'm 20 weeks with my first pregnancy. I want a hospital birth, fully medicated, and I want to make sure labor is as smooth as it can be. I really want to avoid a C-section, if possible, since that is major surgery. Honestly, I don't see myself taking a childbirth class. I love to read and absorb more information that way anyway.

Im glad im here for you. Having intimate knowledge of 2 out of 3 of those facilities I have lots I could share.

Bloggers deserve confidentiality, too. Id like to continue our conversation using Pam or email, if it would make you feel mutually comfortable.

Id like to discuss your previous birth experience, and current birthplan to give my best advice.

Looking forward to helping,

OBN
