So I immediately went to throw my (less than) half-eaten food away and leave the restuarant to get into cooler air. I guess I was weaker than I realized because when I went to throw the food out, the tray slid out of my hand and fell into the garbage with it. I .... left. Nobody noticed, but I still feel AWFUL - it's a place I go 2 or 3 times each week. But I couldn't easily reach the tray to get it out, and I really needed to GET OUT OF THERE before I threw up and passed out, and there was a line of people I'd have had to interrupt to talk to the one guy at the register to explain what happened. How horrible was this?

Also, could you be having a panic attack? That's sometimes what it feels like. In any case, please please see a doctor. What if this happened when you were driving or taking your child somewhere?

As for the tray, I'm sure it happens all the time - and someone may have retrieved it later - so please don't worry about it! Take care of your health.
