I'm looking for recommendations for an OB/GYN who delivers at GW Hospital. I'm only 7ish weeks pregnant and have seen a nurse practitioner at Reiter Hill once. After reading all the comments on Sibley I'm reluctant to deliver there. I think it's early enough in my pregnancy that I can switch
Any suggestions for an OB/GYN who delivers at GW hospital is much appreciated!!

| GW MFA are the OBs affiliated with GW. or Wisdom are the midwives. there are also several solo practitioners who deliver there - mine is Dr. Birnkrant. |
| if you go to the GW hospital website, they have a "find a doctor" button where you can look up OBs and then call them from there. |
| Wisdom all the way |
I think she's looking for recommendations, not instructions on how to look up OBs... |
Yes, recommendations would be helpful! |
| Dr. Susanne Bathgate. She followed my high risk pregnancy. I also liked Dr. Macri. Both are with GW MFA. |
I have only seen Dr. Macri there, who is one of the MFMs. He is a very nice man and presumably an excellent doctor, but he wasn't a good match for me and I switched for that and other reasons. If you search the boards here for GW MFA, though, you'll probably find a lot of comments on the other doctors. I think the maternity ward there also gets great reviews. The things about GW MFA I did not like were: difficulty reaching someone by phone, expensive parking, and some unfriendly front desk staff and nurses. |

Like I said, I used Dr. Birnkrant, so that's my recommendation. If you are looking for other solos who deliver there, the only way I know to find them is to go from the "find the doctor" link and then search for recommendations for those specific doctors.
It is also my understanding that if you use MFA, you switch around to see the different docs and will deliver with whoever is on call so you aren't really choosing one specific doctor there. |
| We really like Dr. Metz (love her midwife-y tendencies), but she's on maternity leave herself until mid-October. Meantime we've been seeing Dr. Bathgate. We like her thoroughness and her high-risk skill, but she is notorious for being late -- try to schedule appointments for as early in the day as possible. Last time we waited more than 2 hours to see her. Depending on how this pregnancy goes, we may switch back to Metz when she returns this fall. Otherwise we feel like we're in good (if overstretched) hands with Bathgate. |
| PP here -- I forgot to say that we've had only positive experiences with the nurses and others. Fadia the triage nurse and both of the sonographers (Slava and Greg) are terrific -- responsive, informed, and compassionate throughout our current pregnancy (9.5 weeks so far) as well as the 2 miscarriages we experienced earlier this year. |
Did you like the nurses who take your BP and baby's heartbeat as well? I've met three of them and I did not find them very warm or caring. Totally different experience at the practice I switched to. |
| Dr. Gaba and Dr Keller are my favorites there. Bathgate is good too. Macri was kind of odd. |
| I love Dr. Macri. He has a wonderful reputation and my experience with him has lived up to that reputation. I've also never had a problem with the desk staff or nurses. They're busy, but they're nice. If you're nice to them, they're nice to you. |

Why worry about choosing one doctor? Doesn't the practice split call time so you never know who will end up with you in labor anyway?
