I don't believe in gay marriage

Am I the only one?

It just seems absurd - you need a woman and a man to have a baby so a marriage should be between a man and woman only.

You don't need a baby to have a marriage.

I want the government to stay out of my home but I want the government to enter your home and tell you how to not protect yourself.

Op here, ok, I'm sorry, I really don't care one way or the other about gay marriage. I have 3 gay friends/family members (one married in VA), one in OH wanting to get married and one in TX happily living in sin.

I just need some comebacks for my holier-than-thou, Chick-fil-a supporting, impossible to get along with mother. Please tell me why gay marriage should be allowed, and why it isn't the path to Sodom & Gomorrah.

If you don't like gay marriage, don't get one.

God made gay people too. Why shouldn't they be happy (or miserable) like the rest of us?

Marriage is a civil contract in the US. You aren't considered married just because you go to a church. You need to file with the state. God's not enough here to get your spouse's social security benefits.

Do you disagree? If so please show your work.

You do not like gay marriage? How does it impact you? I do not see any impact on my life by two gay people getting married. So, I have no problem with gay marriage.

Can we leave this "God" out this? Trying to have a rational discussion...

And you don't need marriage to have a baby.

Also, technology today is wonderful. Gay people have babies. Isn't that a wonderful thing?

Evidently, nature erred when your mother was pregnant with you.

What do you mean you don't "believe" in it? You really mean that you don't approve of something that has no effect on your life, so why do you care if other people marry or not? Should a man and woman not be allowed to marry if they are not going to have children? The only actual argument against gay marriage is if your religious beliefs ( I am not religious btw) prohibit it. Otherwise, there is no rational argument that I have ever heard for not legalizing it.

If you really ate just looking for a response to you mom, I just say...

It's not a religious question. Itis a civil rights issue. You cannot discriminate based on gender.

When she talks about the bible I say - its the constitution not the bible, if we did not have a separation of church and state - churches would have to hire women as priests. You can't have it both ways.

By the way - gay people procreate all the time.

I'd be happy to leave God out of it. But is there an argument against gay marriage that doesn't involve God? If you remove God from the equation, what objections could you (or the OP's mother) possibly have?

Believe would be the wrong word here. You don't approve of it. It happens whether or not you believe in it- it's not Santa or the Easter Bunny, and I've got the certificate to prove it.

I don't approve of a huge host of things that other people do, but I'm an American and due to that happy accident it doesn't matter what I approve or do not approve so long as it does not harm me.

See- gay Americans like myself are harmed by being unable to marry the person of our choosing, our families are harmed by not being afforded the protections that marriage allows other American families. It is a right that you are offered that I am not- which is fundamentally unfair.

That's why it matters.
