You can really luck out at Target - I got a number of things there that I eneded up wearing a lot. Pea in the Pod is worth the investment for staples - I got so much mileage from a few nice pieces from there - black pants, black 'pencil' skirt, nicer light sweaters - I found that their fit and quality are really superior. I found a couple of dresses at Motherhood that I could wear to work, but you do have to pick through there. Overall I agree with the PPs - pregnancy will not be a high-point in your fashion life. |
I bought 4 pairs of full-panel pants from Gap - 2 in black, 2 in khaki. they were fantastic. That was the core of my wardrobe. Also found a khaki cargo skirt and a black pencil skirt, a couple of dresses, and a bunch of drapey shirts. Found some things at Ann Taylor, a couple things at Old Navy (lesser quality), and ordered a couple of things off Amazon from Japanese Weekend. I typically dress in Banana/J Crew/Ann Taylor/etc. so I didn't want a lot of frilly cutesy things. I didn't much like the stuff I found at Liz Lange for Target - they didn't hold up. |
I'll put in another plug for Boden's new maternity line - it's not excatly a bargain, but, the quality is outstanding and I actually like wearing the few pieces I bought. Really cute and stylish, IMO. The only drawback is that it took forever for the stuff to arrive - I think they ship from the UK. I'm used to the instant gratification of Amazon and the like, so waiting several weeks was kind of annoying. |
It's pricey, but I found things I really liked at Appleseed Boutique (in old town). Pre-pregnancy I lived in BR, Anthro and J Crew Stuff. I like Gap as well, but almost everything I've gotten from Old Navy looked like crap, so I decided to just send it back and buy fewer items of the more expensive stuff. |
Another strong recommendation Appleseed in Old Town. Also Boden's maternity line, though it's a small selection right now. Also check out Due Maternity and Belly Dance Maternity online. |
Appleseed is fantastic. Bought most of my nice stuff there and bought cheaper stuff at Gap, Target, and Old Navy. |
another plug for appleseed. Bought Olian pants and skirts there for work. Supplemented with Gap and Boden for casual. Nordstrom also carries good selection. |
I really like Pea in the Pod, but it's expensive, so my policy is to only buy things that are on sale when they give an additional discount on sale items. (For example, recently they gave an extra 25% off anything that was on sale.) Also, I've found that the stuff that is on sale online isn't always on sale in the store.
I also bought a few pieces from Boden last week when they had a take 25% off everything sale online. I'm waiting for them to arrive, but I generally *love* Boden stuff normally, so I'm hopeful. The negative is that they don't carry talls in their maternity clothing, so if you're tall like me, you're more limited in what you can get. I've also had lots of luck with Gap, also limiting myself to specials/sale items. I do find the Old Navy stuff runs VERY large on me. I bought a bathing suit from Target and really like it, and at Target you can buy stuff online but return in the store. Some people recommended H&M to me, but like you, I'm over 30 (kind of "well over 30") and generally don't like H&M's regular line, so I've stayed away from their maternity clothing. Good luck and congrats on the pregnancy! |
i actually bought quite a few items from Anthropologie that work for me maternity-wise, although they're not technically maternity clothes. I'd try there if that's your style. |
Try hotmamma.com. It's a store that I found in the twin cities that I fell in love with but they're online and their stuff is awesome. |
I went to Apple Seed yesterday and bought some great things. She has a wonderful selection and is very helpful. As PPs have said, it's not cheap, but the quality and style appears worth it, to me. You can browse on their website.
I also bought two things at Bellies and Babies in Del Ray. There was a lot of stuff that didn't seem worth buying used (ON tank tops, for one), but some other nice items that were in good shape. |
I don't know how long ago you purchased but with the summer line they've stated that they've moved far more stock to PA and I found that to be accurate with what I bought at least -- everything was here next day! |
The url is actually shopmama.com |
