I love my Vera Bradley "Baby Bag". Just the right size, tons of pockets, machine washable, and usable for something else once I don't need a diaper bag! For people who don't like the prints, they have one in solid color microfiber, too.

Love love love my JuJuBe BFF. Got it after getting fed up with my generic messenger style diaper bag from BRU. Especially like the front ("mommy") pocket and the top grab handle. It also has removable backpack straps that I like in theory but have never actually used.

Just get a big purse that you like, really no need for a special "diaper" bag. That said, I had a Skip Hop one for Target (they did a Target line a few years ago that was great) and liked it a lot. But now I use a Banana Republic bucket bag that can fit tons of stuff and I like that better.

Personally, a diaper bag was one the things I registered for and received that I did not really end up using. Instead, I just carry the folding pad that came with the bag along with a few diapers and wipes in whatever purse I'm carrying. I BF so I never really took bottles. When DS was little and more prone to blow outs, I'd take a change of clothes.

I agree that (except for bigger trips, like airplane rides) I didn't really find a diaper bag that necessary if you are carrying a large-ish purse. Just throw in a couple diapers and wipes and an extra pair of pants.

I'm coming to the end of my diaper bag days, but I must confess that I have always been amazed by the folks who claim never to have used one. Here's what I like to have in my diaper bag for the infant/toddler years:

extra diapers, so I don't have to remember to pack them each time
wipes
desitin
a tube of sunscreen for the summer
a change of clothes for a blowout or potty training accident
some scrap paper and crayons for entertainment when necessary
2 sippy cups for my toddler/preschoolers beverages
a place to put food if we're going to be snacking on the go, and a few "back up snacks" for the times I forget
lotion for chapped cheeks in the winter
a few baby toys for restaurant entertainment
chapstick, breathmints, keys, wallet, phone for me.

I don't carry a purse big enough for all this. In fact, I don't carry a purse at all. Just a diaper bag. I just always needed a diaper bag so I could be better prepared for all these contingencies. I used 2 different Skip Hop models and liked them both. Plenty of pockets so that you knowEXACTLY where to readh for something. I'm int he process of switching to a backpack, which is more comfortable, but not nearly as well organized. Also, I love the feature on Skip Hop that allows you to attch it to your stroller.

has anyone used the skip hop bento bag?

to 14:55- When you carry a really large purse, almost all of that stuff fits in a purse, so when you say you don't understand people who go without a diaper bag, that bag IS your purse. If you wallet, keys, phone etc live in that bag, it is your purse. Other people just carry a purse and toss the "diaper bag stuff" in it. 6 to one person, half a dozen to another.

I LOVE my LL Bean diaper bag. Seriously, it's one of the best purchases I've made in years. I'm not easily pleased, either - I hated my first diaper bag.

The LL Bean Carryall Diaper Bag (can be monogrammed, too):

Storksak. I bought 'Jess Red Label' in blue. They're definitely pricey but I figured that I'd be using this bag for years and I wanted it to be stylish as well as practical. So far it has worked out well - my baby is 6 mths today

Skip Hop Via for local trips, lots of pockets and whatnot. I organize with munchkin mesh laundry bags (bibs/burp cloths in one, change of clothes in the other). For plane rides, I use my timbuk2 cargo tote with the skip hop pronto diaper changer, and more little bags for organizing.

That Versa bag is cute! The solid black looks like a nice purse and it isn't that expensive.

We shelled out for the Lands End one and never used it because we much preferred the FREE, black, simple enfamil (or some random brand of formula) one that we got at the hospital! Go figure. I look forward to getting another one next time around as ours was used and abused

I've heard good things about this bag from Boden: http://www.bodenusa.com/en-US/Baby-Accessories/78048/Baby-Baby-Changing-Bag.html
