It doesn't have to be cute, but I would like it to be light, very functional, organizationally friendly, and gender neutral (so my husband can carry it). Any suggestions? |
Yes, GOOGLE. |
I got the Land's End "Little Tripper" bag and am pretty pleased with its looks--but the baby hasn't arrived yet, so no experience using it. Right now all the best colors (in my opinion) are back-ordered until mid-June, so if you're close to your due date, it might not work for you. |
Diaper dude messenger 2 Eco friendly. It is very light, gendr neutral and not too big. |
Skip hop |
I second the Skip Hop. (and Raspberries to the person who wrote GOOGLE.) |
You're so rude. OP--i recommend skip hop. They have all sorts of sizes and styles and my DH loves ours. |
A backpack! Baby + shoulder bag just does not work for me, and DH prefers backpacks as well. Can't recommend a specific one since we decided we'd start with an old basic backpack from my college days, and then never got around to upgrading. Make sure the straps are comfy - I've seen some diaper bags that claim to have a backpack option, but the straps are thin and completely un-padded. |
I'll recommend Diaper Dude as well. |
I had a Sherpani one that I liked and it was just plain black and you can use it as a normal bag when you're done hauling kids around. Mostly though, I would just use big purses or a small Timbuktu bag, and only carry as much as I need to at the time and then have extra stuff in the car. I usually wore DS in a carrier or wrap of some kind which makes carrying a diaper bag difficult. |
OP here - thank you for all of these suggestions! As you might imagine, I did use Google and read hundreds of reviews on Amazon. It's overwhelming, so I turned to DCUM for some more pointed responses! |
I like skip hop too. I wouldn't go with a regular bag if you're going to be on the move with baby. dont underestimate the times you will have baby on a changing table and nowhere to hang the bag nearby, or dont want to let go of baby to open zipper and dig. You need to be able to grab diapers and wipes with one hand. external pockets on skip hop (I have the duo) are key; also for grabbing wipes on the go while holding toddler's hand or whatever. |
We went with Eddie Bauer based on the Baby Bargains recommendation that it is the most man-friendly diaper bag out there (this was a few years ago). We've been happy with it. |
We have just been using the bag that came with my Medela pump; beyond that I carry large purses and just have a changing pad that I throw in them that holds a couple diapers, wipes and balm and throw in a nursing cover/bottle/cup and a toy and that has worked fine for us without buying any special bag. |
Another vote for Skip Hop -- especially if you don't want a bag that screams diaper bag. |
