I'm a single mom who needs a nanny, but can't afford $500 to $600 a week. Are there any out there that don't charge this much? I really DO NOT want to put my infant in daycare, not yet. What are my options?? ![]() |
where do you live? my DS goes to an amazing home based daycare....I was opposed to....but I am SO HAPPY. He started when he was about 9 weeks old.....6 months now and loves it. |
I'm in Hyattsville, MD, near the University of Maryland. |
nanny share. doesn't reduce the price in half, but does reduce it significantly. |
I could afford a nanny but didn't choose to hire one. Personally, I am not comfortable with the nanny option.
I did choose home daycare that my DD was the only infant and there were 3 other kids - one part time - and the provider's mom lived a few doors down and came by to help almost everyday. I felt more comfortable that there were 2 adults in the home almost the whole time. I would have used a center if I could have found one that had infant openings that I liked. |
perhaps another mom who is looking for a job that they cna bring there child to...
I know I am a single mom looking to bring my son to a job and asking 300 to 400 depending on the job and im having a hard time finding a job ![]() |
hi, i have a 4 yr old daughter and for the first 3yrs of her life i was a single mom, i completely understand what you are talking about, after having her i decided to stay home and do child care from my apt, before this i worked with kids but in a school setting, there was no way i would've be able to afford child care.
i recently got married and have continued doing child care at home, we recently moved to takoma park east west and new hampshire, my rates are good and i am looking for children to take care of, i have tons of references. would be great to hear from you. fifigt8@aol.com |

Hey, OP. I live in Mt. Rainier, and while I didn't use a nanny, there are some families here who have done the nanny share thing. There are also several home childcare providers that I researched and woud have felt good about leaving my son with, except we (I was married at the time) decided to put our child in care at the other end of the commute downtown.
Some ideas: Check the bulletin boards at the Takoma Park Siver Spring Coop, Video Americain, and Mark's Kitchen in downtown Takoma. It's not that far from Hyattsville, really. Check the Glut bulletin board in Mt. Rainier. Re: home based care, if you call the county, they will give you a list of up to 15 providers over the phone that you can check out. It's been six years since I called, but I think it's the PG Co. Child Care Assistance number. 301-772-8400 |
