Finding offensive heavy metal and rap on my kid's iPod...

It depends on how old they are, but as teens, it's a battle not worth fighting. Especially if it's on their Ipod. That's for private listening.

16:55 again. Just to reiterate, I don't think it was a waste of time to limit my kids' choices to non-explicit songs when they were younger, and to require them to read the lyrics with me when they started wanting explicit songs. I would ask them, "Is this something God would want you to listen to?" "Would your parents allow this person to come into our house and talk like that?" I think all of that planted the seed for making better choices later. Not saying they always make good choices. The other day my son, who plays piano, asked me to download some piano/vocal sheet music by Amy Winehouse that had some language that raised my eyebrows....

And to those of you who still listen to the crap that we listened to as teenagers, if your tastes never matured, how can you expect your kids to have good taste? Sorry to be snarky, but I am continually amazed at the musical illiteracy of my generation and subsequent generations. Justin Bieber is what we as a culture deserve, unfortunatley.

I have really tried to see the appeal of a lot of the modern music and different genres of music than what I grew up on and I just can't stand it. If I worked on it for a week or two I could talk really fast like any of those idiot rap guys with their guns and their teeth and bling....the teeny bopper crap like Justin Bieber has never appealed to me in any era....

I printed out the lyrics and had DS read them to me. If he couldn't get through reading them to Mom, followed by a discussion of what they meant, the song was removed.
