Losing Weight

Zumba is a dance fitness workout designed to feel more like a party than an exercise class. It combines various dance styles from around the world: salsa, merengue, belly, flamenco, hip hop, cha cha, samba, tinikling, it is very culturally versatile, but predominantly latin. You learn to move to the rhythm changes of the music, rather than the standard 32-count format of traditional aerobics classes, and you can take the moves to the night clubs, as we are always throwing in the latest moves from Brazil, Jamaica, and everywhere. I love it.

Zumba combines high energy and motivating music with unique moves and combinations that allow the Zumba participants to dance away their worries. It is based on the principle that a workout should be "FUN AND EASY TO DO"...check out www.zumba.com for classes near you!!

I too lost quite a bit of weight with WW. However, I found the weekly face-to-face meetings much more helpful in my weight loss success than online. For me, WW online was trying yet another diet on my own that didn't work. I highly recommend the weekly meetings.

what is zumba?

I agree with the weekly meetings. I did both. I do feel like I was a success by having to be accountable every week.

Hey 20:40, Zumba is a latin & international dance-fitness workout that is designed to feel like a party and give you an aerobic workout at the same time. It's salsa, merengue, flamenco, belly, cha cha, a bit of hip hop and dances from all over the world. It hit the U.S. in Miami in the 90s, and DC about 5 years ago. Check www.zumba.com for class listings worldwide.

Just want to share that I recently visited a friend of mine...50 years old and near 300 pounds when I last saw her. Now she is 53 and 150 pounds. She lost it all with portion control and eliminating pasta and sugar from her diet. She said she has kept it off for nearly 2 years.

I am not fat but rather very skinny. I have noticed in the last year that I have developed a big belly. I know I cant spot train, but I dont want to lose weinght either. I have given up drinking soda. The only thing I cant seem to give up is pasta? Does whole wheat pasta qualify as a weight enhancer?

PP, I am skinny too, and have read articles saying that for women having belly fat (especially visceral fat, not the subcutaneous kind you can pinch, but the deeper fat around your organs) is especially unhealthy. aka "apple shape" this kind of fat responds best to exercise (aerobic). Situps can strengthen your muscles but won't get rid of the visc fat. You have to get moving to do that (and diet alone won't do it either). HTH
