Zumba is a dance fitness workout designed to feel more like a party than an exercise class. It combines various dance styles from around the world: salsa, merengue, belly, flamenco, hip hop, cha cha, samba, tinikling, it is very culturally versatile, but predominantly latin. You learn to move to the rhythm changes of the music, rather than the standard 32-count format of traditional aerobics classes, and you can take the moves to the night clubs, as we are always throwing in the latest moves from Brazil, Jamaica, and everywhere. I love it.

It's salsa, merengue, flamenco, belly, cha cha, a bit of hip hop and dances from all over the world. It hit the U.S. in Miami in the 90s, and DC about 5 years ago. Just want to share that I recently visited a friend of mine...50 years old and near 300 pounds when I last saw her. Now she is 53 and 150 pounds. She lost it all with portion control and eliminating pasta and sugar from her diet. She said she has kept it off for nearly 2 years.
