MOCO County Council continues the decline

These people wont stop until the entire county has poor schools and overcrowding, this while constantly raising property values.

They refuse to figure out how to get ONE major company to relocate or put a major base here.

There are still a lot of positives about living in Montgomery County that people move here for—beautiful neighborhoods, top-ranked public schools, relative safety, and a great place to raise a family. For now, those remain true.

But economically, we’ve been stagnant. We spend too much time chasing ideological wins—whether it's performative equity initiatives or extreme environmental policies—while ignoring what actually moves the region forward. Meanwhile, violent and juvenile crime is rising significantly, with carjackings and youth-related incidents doubling or tripling in recent years.

On housing, cutting up lots for tiny homes and triplexes won’t fix the problem. What would help? Streamlining our permitting process, which can currently take 12–18 months or longer depending on the project versus 3–6 months in peer jurisdictions. And we should be investing in infrastructure that attracts good jobs, not just housing for housing’s sake. We lead the state in sectors like biomedical research and life sciences, but we aren’t acting like it. Where are the bold partnerships, commercial incentives, and job-creating development zones?

Ironically, the best thing we can do for everyone is to build a strong economy that allows people to flourish. But instead, we delay infrastructure projects (just look at the 495/270 mess), slow housing and business growth, and sideline practical solutions because leadership wants more time to “deliberate”—or more likely, to avoid hard choices while advancing to their next political gig.

We can and should do better - I am hopeful we get our mojo back as we have a lot to offer!
