Students from northeast heading south for college more than ever

Anonymous
Warm weather, affordability and politics have prompted a teenage migration from the Northeast to the South.

Why it matters: Large southern state schools, many in already expanding metro areas, are attracting a geographically diverse student body as Americans are increasingly disillusioned with the value of higher education.
"They're seen not only as more fun, but also more accessible," Jeff Selingo, author of college admissions books, told Axios.

"Students have said to me, 'I don't want to go to a college where everybody's angry at each other and everybody's fighting over everything,'" said Maria Laskaris, a counselor at Top Tier Admissions, a higher education consulting firm.

Well Trump and crew are going to make sure everybody is angry everywhere.

As opposed to the Dems who have all time low approval ratings. Agree, WSJ had a great article illustrating this trend lots of full pay kids going to the SEC Conference for better weather, improved academics, growing economy and fantastic sports. Trend happened during Biden/Harris.

SEC will most likely have 4 of the top 8 teams in March Madness-best sports event of the year.

I think admissions has a lot to do with it too. In the March 4 episode of the Dartmouth admissions podcast the Dean of Admissions at Dartmouth literally recommended big state schools for strong students who want a predictable application process that seems fair from the outside (the opposite of what he and his guest were describing at Dartmouth and Brown). It’s at minute 22:00. People just don’t want to jump through all the hoops and play all the games in order to pay $100,000 a year to live in Hanover or Providence.

Except that kids are fleeing to red state schools, which are not hotbeds of Islamic extremism.

Mine is struggling picking between a couple of schools - some in the south with warmer, more relaxed atmospheres and some in the north with better protections for women's rights.
