Expectant and Postpartum Moms
I am 5.5 weeks pregnant and went in for a dating ultrasound. Granted it is a slight bit early, the doctor seemed a little concerned she was able to see the gestational sac but no sign of the fetus and is sending me to get a more detailed ultrasound. Has this happened to anyone??????? I am very very worried.

The baby is the size of a sesame seed right now - ultrasounds can be very unreliable at this point. The pole could be tilted back and hiding. I've seen it go both ways at this stage - but keep hope!
Good luck! |

Don't stress too much. I though I was six weeks pregnant when I had my first ultrasound, but the doctor saw a sac and no fetus. I did the 48-hour HCG testing and my numbers more than doubled. I had a subsequent ultrasound two weeks later and we saw two sacs and two heartbeats! I ovulated late that cycle. Maybe like me, your timing is slightly off.
Best of luck! |
It's so early, just stay positive and let us know what happens!
Happened to me three pregnancies in a row...my kids are now 6 and 2 and I am 21 weeks pregnant. Late bloomers, I say. Try to be patient and not to worry - good luck to you!
Yeah, I had the same experience, and my "missing" fetus is now almost 2 1/2 years old and a complete handful.
My missing guy is 9 months and he puked on my shirt on the way to work. Good luck!
I think in general the ultrasounds in doctors' offices are not as strong as the ones at the imaging centers. Don't worry just yet - easier said than done, I know. I don't think this is uncommon at 5.5 weeks.
5.5 weeks is very early for an u/s unless there is a chance of an ectopic. I'm surprised your doctor even did an u/s that early. If it makes you feel better I had an u/s at 5w1d because of risk of ectopic -- the doctor saw 1 sac with a pretty sophisticated machine. Two weeks later there were *two* sacs and two heartbeats.
It happened to me and the doctor was just an i...t! He told me there is NO baby and I should have a miscarriage.. But I did not believe him, I still felt kind of sick, so I just waited and in the mean time did some research online. I found out it is really too early to see something on ultrasound. I went to his office two weeks later and he told me: "Here is the heart beating, can you see that?" We were so mad at him with my boyfriend because if I have not decided, he would send me for the procedure and now I would not be 3 months away from seeing my baby girl!!!!! SO, really, do not worry!!!! It is just too early to see..
New Poster here. Im going in for a dating ultrasound tomorrow and was curious if anyone was able to see a fetal pole before 6 weeks?
I am worried, went yesterday for a dated ultrasound, saw a sac with no baby. Dr said that I was probably 5 weeks or a little earlier. Don't know what to think.
Hang tight PP. I am the OP and as far as I can tell, I am 11 weeks pregnant. They saw the heartbeat at my 7 week appointment and now I am eagerly awaiting my NT scan next week. Good luck.
Same thing happened to me. Saw the sac but no fetal pole. I thought I was 7 weeks. I went back two weeks later, and there was a heartbeat. My due date was adjusted 10 days, and I am now being kicked by said baby at 32 weeks gestation. Good luck - I know the time between ultrasounds can be stressful (and first tech was not compassionate at all).
21:24 how could you be off by two weeks, are your cycles very irregular?
