Sac but no fetus at 5.5 weeks

I went in at 5 or 6 weeks and same thing - sac but no fetal pole. Now, roughly 9 months later, my little blighted ovum is 5 weeks, 1 day old and currently snuggling on the couch with my husband as we speak.

I feel that ob/gyns are doing a disservice doing ultrasounds so early. I was incredibly stressed out when I was told I had a possible blighted ovum and to come back in a week, only to be snowed in my house (during the Feb. blizzard) for 2 weeks and thinking I was miscarrying the whole time. When I finally was able to get back to the doctor, they found a heartbeat, fetal pole and adjusted my due date by a week or so. And then he came 3 weeks early.

Moral of the story...although it could, in fact, be a blighted ovum, it could also be a hiding embryo. Just hang tight and good luck.

I'm very surprised a dr would do an u/s at 5.5 weeks. I did IVF and my RE schedules for 7 weeks because by then you'll know. Even at 6-6.5 weeks it's not so reliable.

same thing happened to me and I'm currently 29 weeks. It's very very early so don't think the worst!
