If Fenty Wins...

And to add to the PP, there is NO WAY, the Mayor's fraternity brothers would have qualified for the $82MM in contracts for Parks and Recreation without his involvment. They would have never made it through a competively sealed bidding process b/c they did not have the experience.

In addition, people keep talking about how great his appointments have been. Really?? Outside of Gabe Klein, Chief Lanier and Michelle Rhee, many of his appointments are an absolute disaster. Look at Education outside of the Chancellor. I cannot figure out what Victor Reinoso and Kerri Briggs do. There are 66 agencies that run in spite of the Mayor's incompetent appointees.

Funny. From reading these debates I can see and hear what Fenty plans to do for the city. I haven't heard anything from Gray except that he is "not Fenty". Not a good enough reason.

That says more about Gray's supporters than it does about Gray. If you're looking for his positions, try his website. (There's also a thread from earlier this summer, titled something like "I'm voting for Vincent Gray because...." --though honestly it too has a lot of "he's not Fenty.")

What entitlements?

Well now you have to also question Cathy Lanier's honesty and transparancy. Whatever you want to say, Mary Cheh was a big supporter of Lanier. Upon Lanier's appointment, Cheh damn near had an orgasm. Lately, Cheh has been stating that Lanier has been hiding information and so forth. She has also accused Lanier of cooking or suppressing the true crime statistics. Apparently the FBI keeps statistics of DC crimes (federal city I imagine) and the FBI stats are far greater than what MPD has been reporting to the city residents.

Well you should try reading information beyond this website. You should also clean out your ears and have the heart to receive the message. Gray has a website outlining his plans. He has appeared in forums and mentioned his plans. No, he does not have a newspaper behind and in front of him printing his message for free like his opponent has. Nor does Gray have 5million dollars to promote tv advertisements and pay a staff of Maryland supporters to campaign on his behalf. Finally, Gray does not have a convicted felon on his bankroll to pay people to vote on his behalf. However, without having all that, Gray has delivered a message and plans for this city. Why will you not listen.

Great question. Like I said, "Entitlement spending is federal level. Graft, corruption, and incompetence are local."

But the PP hasn't weighed in with an econ lesson yet.

(For the record, this is not to say that graft, corruption, and incompetence can't be federal too. They certainly appear to be.)

Test scores went down last year, the year when Rhee fired 300 teachers, accused them of being predators, and then found the money a few months later.

Yep, that's competence for me and the ONLY person who can save DCPS.

Add in the arrogance tipified by the baseball ticket spat, the no-bid pass-through contracts, the bike trips, and we have a guy who probably reached his Peter Principle levels as Councilman.

I live outside DC and I suspect many/most of the "ZOMG Gray's the re-incarnation of Marion Barry" posters don't live in DC either.

This is what I don't get -- sometimes you don't need grand new strategies, you just don't think the current Mayor can really produce what he claims. I don't expect Gray to come out with something greater, brighter, faster! I just want to continue moving the city forward with someone I actually think is smart.

Best quote regarding Fenty and the current polls. From Ryan Avent:

"Y'know, I wouldn't respect voters either if they ignored performance and voted based on their perception that I didn't respect them."

Sums up my feelings pretty succinctly. Putting aside the various folks who are up in arms about Fenty's actual policies, people think he's doing a fantastic job. They just aren't going to vote for him because he's not warm enough.

You think Vince Gray is smart? Really? Wow. Another reason I'm glad I live in Fairfax County.

Please mind your own business. There are many reasons why many choose not to live in Fairfax County. Duh!

Another reason why Fenty is clueless because he thinks that that is all this is about.
