If Fenty Wins...

Fenty is doing a fantastic job?? Interesting. The number of special ed kids going to private school under Michelle Rhee has doubled, Special Education (Transportation and private school) is now costing over $300MM PER YEAR, the city has not been able to exit any of it's court orders, the Mayor won't answer questions regarding Ron Moten and how much money Peaceholics have received, the Mayor went outside of contracting to hire his friends (it would have been impossible for his friends to get those contracts without him b/c they would not have qualified on their own), a Superintendent of Schools (Kerri Briggs) is an idiot - that's why you never see or hear from her, although the Mayor claims that education reform is his number 1 priority.

So again, he's done a fantastic job??? People who believe that don't really know what's going on in city government. They are seemingly impressed because snow removal went well? The Mayor would not close city government even though Metro was closed and employees had NO way to get to work! I'll take my chances with Gray.

Fairfax poster here again. These eager Gray supporters remind me of Obama supporters in 2008. Don't care about record, hate the other guy and will say anything to get him elected. It doesn't matter if he hasn't led even a 6th grade class. Good luck with that DC. We'll be watching from the sidelines and heading home at 6pm to our good schools and good governance.

Ha ha -- have a nice cup of tea, sit down in your comfy chair, and enjoy your self-satisfied smugness! Give yourself a pat on the head, too, while you're at it!

You should have plenty of time to watch while sitting in traffic jams on 66. But, maybe the exhaust fumes are starting to get to you.

I live in McLean. I only take the GW to and from work. Quicker commute downtown than a lot of the Ward 3 residents.

Hey Fairfax, since you don't live here, what the hell do you know about living here besides what you see when you come to the city on occasion. So, are the streets better paved, or are you just ignorant and going off on what you've heard. You still have not given any reason to vote for Fenty. You haven't stated any of his accomplishments. You don't live here, so you don't know how terrible our libraries and Parks and Rec programs have become. Stop looking at the buildings. The city cannot afford programming and staff for the buildings. Is that a success? We have new libraries, but no money for additional books. Is that success?

I do have a stake in what happens in DC. My kids go to a private in DC and my firm is based there and until they wise up and move out to Tysons (that's a whole new thread that should be entitled: "Is Tysons the new downtown") things that happen in the city affect us all and since this really an interconnected metro area I feel as if I have a voice in the say. And since Congress controls what you do, I know I have a say in what goes on in the District. That being said District schools are really bad yet I don't understand why the teachers union is so powerful. and doesn't work to change itself. It's impossible to fire bad teachers in DC.

Translation: I use your roads, drink your water, pollute your air, pee and crap in your sewer system and depend on your emergency services without providing one penny of monies to pay for these services, save for the few dollars per year the lunches I might buy are taxed, yet I will dictate my terms and opinions to you.

Thanks, but no thanks.

Let's hope Gray tries for a commuter tax. Then maybe DC Hater from Fairfax will completely go away when his/her law firm slithers to Tysons. Surely you can find a school in VA so you can stay out of DC altogether.

Wow, the schools aren't good enough where you live? Maybe you should work on that.

Is Tyson's the new downtown? OMG you're an idiot! What cultural or architectural offerings does Tyson's have to offer beyond the Galleria? You have all the sophistication of a Kardashian.

I don't expect Gray to come out with something greater, brighter, faster! I just want to continue moving the city forward with someone I actually think is smart.

You think Vince Gray is smart? Really? Wow. Another reason I'm glad I live in Fairfax County.

Must be mighty dull there, what with you needing to spend so much of your time on anonymous DC political boards just to keep yourself entertained and all.

Question: Would those who voted for Vince Gray last year still vote for him today?

I wouldn't. In hindsight, I'd take Fenty's occasional arrogrance and immaturity any day. I like Gray personally and think he means well, but feel like things are slipping back in DC. It just seems like there's more tolerance of a "go along, get along" culture in DC government and a view that the election was a mandate for those who didn't want change. My sense is that the city work force, which became more forward thinking and responsive under Williams and Fenty, is becoming less responsive and once again, more bureaucratic. I hope my initial impression of the Gray era proves wrong.
