Infants, Toddlers, & Preschoolers
| I just realized tonight that DD doesn't have nearly enough room in her infant tub anymore. She is a small girl but 9 months old. I don't know how I didn't see it until just tonight because it seemed so glaringly obvious once I realized it. How old was your DC when you moved to the regular tub? And did anyone else have this happen where you feel like you totally missed something that should have been clear? I felt so guilty as I looked at her in her tub. |
| Do not feel guilty! Bathing in a slightly small tub never killed anyone, I promise. But if she's sitting up well on her own, which she probably is at 9 months, there's no reason not to put her in the regular tub. We switched over around 7 months. My DS was well over 20 lbs by that point, although not sitting up perfectly on his own, so we used one of those bath seat things for a few months in the big tub until he was more steady. |
| 7 months as well, when she could sit up steadily and reliably. |
| We transitioned from the infant tub (the plastic kind that they are lying down in at an incline) to the inflatable duck that goes in the big tub (bought at Target). Once they were able to sit up well (I think it was about 10 months), we switched to the tub with a rubber mat underneath. |
| my 15 month old is still in the inflatable duck tub from target. She gets a little wild in the bath, so the smaller space helps keep control of her. The fact that it's inflatable protects her from bumps and bruises. |
| We switched around 6 1/2 months, when she was sitting up no problem on her own. |
| I switched to a bath ring around 7 months - she is 10 months now and still using it. She tries to crawl around if she isn't in it and seems to quite like the ring. We only have one bathroom so I can deal with the ring much better than the giant inflatable duck. |

Ha, don't feel guilty at all!
DS hated the big tub, and would flip out every time we tried to take out the infant tub. He used the infant tub all the way until he was 2 years old. Yes, it was small, but he was happy. |
| I switched to the bathtub around 5-6 months when he was sitting up well enough on his own and was way to big for the baby tub. He didn't really like the ring - it smashed his man bits. So I use one of those sticky mats for the tub, that he sits on. |
| My oldest didn't like the big tub so we kept using our baby/toddler tub unti he was 2. My youngest is one and we are still using it but for the exact opposite reason-he's a wild man, not cautious at all and this just makes it easier. Although I think we wil transition him sooner than our oldest. |
| We use the Euro Tub for DD (at 19 months). She is a wild child, and she will actively try to climb out, walk around, etc. without some sort of confining device. |
| We use a non reclining smaller tub in the big tub. It seems awfully wasteful to fill our tub up every night. |
Agreed. Mine could easily go into the big tub (9mo) but I would have to use a lot more water. |
|
We used the Euro from birth until almost a year. We switched when he started standing up in the tub, which we had sitting on a counter in the bathroom. Although we were always right there, a few times his standing up caused the tub to move, and we were afraid he'd knock it off the counter.
That said, if your back can handle bending over, I think they can move into the big tub as soon as they are sitting well. |
Same here-- DD hated the reclining tub once she was about 6 months. She still likes the small tub at 16 months--when we travel and put her in a big bathtub she freaks out. Plus she stays put in the little tub, I'm sure she'd be all over the place in a regular one. She is on the small side though, for a larger toddler it probaby wouldn't work. |
