Read this yahoo news that says 50% American have at least on side gigs. Many of them even earn more than 100K. Is it true?

Do you have any side jobs? What’s your motivation to work on a side job and how did you find them?

This does not seem likely. I’d believe 25% or even a third..

Yes, I have a side job consulting in a field adjacent to my primary job, but I’m only working the side job enough to earn about $25K a year. I got into it because I enjoy the new experience it offers and extra income is good too.

DIL works a side job at a woman's department store. Only because I told my son I couldn't keep giving them $500 a month to play with. It's like no one cares if we run out of money. She only makes about $400 a month. Close to what I was giving them. So now they won't give me the time of day.

Do I believe the 50% statistic ? Yes I do. I know many people doing extra work just for food and gas. The other essentials are being covered by parents. At least it is in these cases.

It's hard to be financially sound right now unless you have a little extra help. I never say no to food or gas.

I dog sit. Get puppy cuddles? Check. Get paid? Check.

Wut. No that's crazy. I know no one with a second job. But I also really only know white collar workers.

But maybe they're all elsewhere outside of the DMV where people get paid peanuts. Still not 50%.

I dont know anyone who does this but I do know MANY men who get paid 7-fig and spend half their week golfing.

She would be better off working in a restaurant.Good exercise, they feed you and she can make that amount in two shifts.

There are people with two full-time jobs! Someone posted here and had two or three jobs, but they were going to resign from one of them.

They had J1 and didn't want to resign until they knew J2 was a sure deal. Once they started J2, they realized they could keep J1.

Maybe this person will pop into this thread.

In DC, a worker at the MLK Library had three jobs--two full-time jobs and one part-time job as a doula. She was fired.

I have hard time believing such a high percentage.
I'm low income myself. Many of my co-workers work two jobs and have as long as I can remember.
I worked two jobs only couple of years, but it wasn't over 60 hours in total.
I have several income streams, but I wouldn't call them side hustles. Biggest help on surviving low income job has been great health, low expenses, great credit, and learning to invest.

Any investment tips or resources that you can share, PP?

I wonder how loosely we’re using the term second job. I do random surveys and focus groups for an extra $500/month, so while it’s earned income, I wouldn’t call it a job.
