Hello ,
I require advise how can I improve reading /reading interest of my elementary going kid. I need advise which books to pick from Montgomery county libraries. I read through different threads and found parents are suggesting bob's books. Do you have any other book suggestion which will have mostly three letter words and easy for kids to blend with phonics. I will get books from library so it will be better if you suggest books. I talked with librarian but the books which i found is of little interest for kid. Thank you |

Let your kid pick. That’s how to work with their interests. If they want to read the same Spiderman book over and over, let them. It’s educationally valuable but also sends the message that reading is fun and their interests are important to you. |
I liked Flyleaf publishing books -- doubtful they're at the library, but you can look at them for free on a tablet or computer

It's hard to find books with only three-letter CVC words aside from Bob books . One tactic you could also try is to let your child pick the books, then you read to your child and stop at the cvc words. The child can then try to read those words. |
I liked easy readers beginner reader level. Pete the Cat. Richard Scarry. You should take your child to the library and see what subjects interest them. |
Libraries are actually not equipped for the really beginner readers (like in-level kinder kids). Ask the teacher because they have better resources.
But your job is to make reading fun, so let the kid pick books at the library! |
PP is correct that libraries are not equipped for the most beginner-level of readers.
Look for the book series called, "Rime to Read: A Program For Beginning Readers." MCPL has it. Also, there are a number of Bob Books on the market now. Make sure to get the beginning level set for your child. Books that have limited letter patterns (what you described) are called decodable books. As the child learns more letter patterns, they read books that include the new patterns. This web page has many good decodable book series listed. https://www.thereadingleague.org/decodable-text-sources/ |
You should ask your child’s teacher for help with this topic. You should also read books to your child to keep the child interested in reading and to help get the idea across that reading is fun. You can also ask at the library for audiobooks that the child can listen to. |
Which grade? |
Some Dr Seuss (Hop on Pop comes to mind)
Go Dog Go Fox in a Box |
The Foot Book
Go Dog Go Hop on Pop Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb And since you're going to the library anyway, ask the children's librarians! I can't vouch for MoCo but all DC Public Library's children's librarians I've met are wonderful! I don't know if they're in libraries, but also look for the "We Both Read" series. |
look for some of the Usborne Phonics Readers books
