Achilles practices in NW DC and silver spring tho.

Wouldn't that fit the definition of "in or near Montgomery County"?

+1. Achilles" DC practice is at SJC. It is literally right on the DC/MoCo line.

That may not be the atmosphere "new to the state"is looking for.

I agree with one of the previous posters:
1) Bethesda MLS Next
2) Potomac ECNL
3) Bethesda Blue, Nations League
4) PPA Green, EDP 1

Best from top to bottom (well, not bottom, but lower)

Bethesda Soccer, MLS Next (lots of teams below as well)
Potomac, ECNL. (all the best PPA kids just went there)
Achilles, MLS Next (but very bad in MLS Next)
PPA, EDP 1

Where is Bethesda Blue now? Did they move to Nation's League? I'd put them on par with the Potomac ECNL team.

Blue? Negatory. Not in the same league as MLSNEXT or am ECNL teams mentioned above. They played my son’s EDP1 team last year and unimpressed. They have a striker who is headed for pros, that’s it for talent.

Why would a striker “headed for the pros” be on their second team instead of MLS Next?

Yeah, I’m familiar with this age group and wouldn’t put any stock in this dude’s soccer evaluation skills.

OP—start by looking at Bethesda and Potomac. Also check out PPA. Their team won’t likely be as strong this year after the exodus to Potomac, but they have some good players and coaches.

Lol.

What on that website is supposed to indicate that the location isn't what I would be looking for because I moved from another state.

I think what PP was trying to say is that the coach has a reputation? You can search the forum for Coach Sal or something like that.

I’m assuming all coaches at that level are tough but I have no first had experience as my kids are younger than yours.

Someone said "it's on the DC Silver Spring border tho". Implying that wasn't what I might want.

So, I asked why that wouldn't count as "in or close to MoCo".

Someone said "Yes it's close to MoCo but not what someone new to the state might want." and then linked this which doesn't say anything about his interactions with players.

I'm just not following.

Achilles is a bit of a mess right now, especially in this age group.

How was it able to get a new MLSNext team?

It has the fake MLS next team which is now what? National Academy?

I think they are part of that. But what PP was referring to is that this year, they added a 4th MLSNext team. Before they just had 3 age groups.

Anyone have any firsthand knowledge of what happened to Achilles' 2009 team?

DS has played against all 3 of those teams. While these may be the top 3 in the area that OP is looking (altho debatable depending on age group), there is a sizable gap between 1 and the other 2 - especially Bethesda Blue.
