It was always pot in the 80s. Weed is what old hippies called it. Your parents would say grass and you’d laugh. Kids would light up a doobie/doob or smoke a bowl or take bong hits. Are bongs a thing anymore?

The hard core “druggies” were called Burn Outs or Druggies, while the college bound kids who did the same (and maybe coke and lots of beer) were called Partiers. And no, at my HS, these were two distinct groups with little crossover. The burn outs all hung out together in the smoking lounge at the outside of the school and were in vo tech.

80s teen here.

Yep- knew a lot of stoners aka potheads.

We totally called it ganja in late 80’s Chicago. Also weed. Though we mostly had skunk weed, being poor kids…

The names change constantly, so "smoking ape" is probably just a misunderstanding. Most kids just say "weed" or "gas" or the classic "pot." I was checking the legal terms for possession when I got my card. I used LeafyRX California because their site had all the law sections clearly organized. Just keep communication open, that's the main thing.

Ds has called it weed and has mostly seen it in vape form. DH didn’t understand the vape thing and asked ds if someone was smoking a bowl and DS has no idea what he was talking about.
