Does your college kid have keys for the dorm?

We are trying to come up with a graduation gift for a bunch of graduating seniors. We have a few items and are wondering if a keychain might be something they could use in college? Or have all of the colleges gone to code entry doors?

obviously not all colleges gone to keyless. Depends on which schools they go to.

Mine has a card to swipe for entry. And we live in one of those neighborhoods where nobody locks doors. She's moving off campus next year and lives in a city with a decently high crime rate so I'm just hoping and hoping that she and housemates get a handle on the key thing.

Mine has a room key, but she keeps it on a lanyard as do most students at her school (card for dorm access). Not sure a keychain would be used.

Mine has a card key system, the card is kept on the phone case

Ok, OP here. Thanks for the input on keychains. Sounds like it might not be the best idea. Anything else? Did your kids get anything small like that ($12 or less) for graduation that proved useful?

No keys at UVA, though now that my kids live off grounds, they have keys for their apartments. Also don't forget car key and house key for home... might still be a useful gift.

A 16oz lidded water bottle with a clip to attach it to a backpack. My son rarely lost anything like that until he went to college.

A personalized water bottle (name printed on it) with new school logo.

Get your grad a school-design lanyard that has a hard plastic key-card holder in it. It will literally be used every single day. College students don't go anywhere without their key-card. And if they have actual keys for the dorm, they put that on the lanyard loop as well.

Some kids use lanyards. Mine said they were totally a thing people laughed at freshman for so they got dropped pretty quickly,

They use card swipes to get into the dorm, but key to get into their room.

My daughter hung her key on a school (swag) lanyard.
