Ahum, perhaps a silly question but would it be weird to ask for a bikini wax at a salon during your third trimester (I'm 34 weeks preg). It's kind of a hard to reach place and I really don't want to 'worry' about hairs and stuff while I am in not the most elegant positions anyway. I just don't know how salons would feel about waxing a heavily pregnant woman. Any experiences?
I know this is only a minor thing and nothing to really worry about but I have to say I would feel much better knowing that everything still looks kind of ok ... |
I don't have any experience doing this but I do plan to wax in the later months. My plan is to call the salon and tell them I am very pregnant when I make the appointment. If they balk, I'll call another salon. |
No one blinked an eye when I did it up until I gave birth two times.
I didn't think of it as a big deal at all. I would rather be a little embarrassed at a salon then at my ob's office or at the hospital by NOT having it done. |
I had it done throughout my pregnancy and no one acted like it was strange. I will warn you that it's more painful than usual since you have extra swelling. I wish I had had more waxed off b/c they shave you partially for a c-section and it itches like crazy growing back! |
I didn't feel any more pain. |
I remember reading someone post on here once (jokingly I think) that she did it and then went into labor fairly soon after. Not sure if there is any truth to that, but I had it done when I was 36 weeks and went into labor 2 days later. I'm sure it had nothing to do with it (I had my first internal the day I had the bikini wax) but I sometimes wonder... |
Most of my friends have had it done shortly before their due date so I think it's pretty common. Most have said it's more painful at that point. I'm on the fence....I may not have the nerve. |
Just be carefult if you have varicose veins, other than that if they don't mind waxing, then it should be ok. I personally would not want them to touch the lower abdomen/pelvic area, because I worry about skin being pulled, but PPs did not seem afraid so that's upto you, strictly b/w the legs should cause no problems. |
OP again: Ok, I have made up my mind and want to book a bikini wax before I'm giving birth .. can anyone recommend a salon where you can get a good wax and they will not be uncomfortable doing it. I am looking in the Bethesda Chevy Chase, DC NW or something not too far away.

Ilo in Georgetown will do a good job. They did mine - both times!

I think that Elizabeth Arden Red Door would do it. |
Get Natalya at Red Door in CC. She's the best. I got a random person once and she wasn't nearly as efficient and painless... |
Alicia at Blue Mercury in Dupont Circle is awesome.
That being said, I agree with the PP who said it gets more painful the later you are in your pregnancy. I got a bikini wax when I was about 32 weeks because we were heading to the beach for a week, and it was torturous. But that might've also been due to the fact that it was the type where they put the hot wax directly on you, and I'm used to the cold wax strips that they use at blue mercury. |
I had one done 3 days before my scheduled csection (and also was getting them regularly throughout my pregnancy). It hurt much more than usual because the skin was extra sensitive due to the pregnancy, but other than that it was fine. I go to Celadon, if you go there I would ask for Judith or Susan. |
What week do you think is good to get a bikini wax done? I was thinking 34 weeks but am wondering if this is too early. |
