Bikini wax in 3rd trimester??

Anonymous
Are people getting Brazilians? Or just a basic waxing of what would be visible around a bikini bottom?

OP: I wanted to ask the same question, I would really like to have a Brazilian but I keep thinking that you would have to bare all during the wax and I don't think I am too comfortable with that at the moment. So maybe an extended bikini wax or something?

Looked up the Red Door Salon but $ 70 ... sounds very expensive or is that what you would pay around here? I am from France so I'm not very familiar with the prices.

I know. I am thinking of getting waxed too...do you have to bare all for a Brazilian? I've never had one and I don't want to totture myself. I'm 32 weeks now and feel like an amazon down there! How soon is too soon to get a wax?

If you've never gotten a Brazilian before, I don't think I'd suggest doing it for the first time when you're that far along. It's kind of traumatic the first time regardless (and yes, you pretty much bare all -- I've had brazilians that felt WAY more intimate than my annual obgyn visit!), and you might not want to deal with that if you're more tender down there. Just my 2 cents. I go to Skin on the Hill (8th & Penn SE) and Nora (owner & waxer) just had a baby of her own, so would certainly be extra sympathetic.

This is a very interesting thread. I too am 32 weeks pregnant and want to get waxed because I can't groom myself these days! How intimate is a regular bikini wax? Do I at least get to keep my underware on? Weird question, I know. Thanks!

I regularly get bikini waxes pre-pregnancy. I waited from the time I found out I was pregnant until I was about 15-20 weeks or so before I got my next one (so that was a long time to go between waxes) and it was REALLY painful, but then the next time I got one, maybe around 25-30, it was not nearly as bad, and since I was visibly pregnant, the waxer was really sweet and gentle. I am now 36 weeks and have to do it again, but I have been dreading it because I assume I will be more uncomfortable.

In terms of what it consists of, it depends on the place you go - some places have you take off your underwear and make you wear paper underwear, other places make you just pull your underwear to the side so they can access, and for Brazilian or if you want a real comprehensive wax, you might be best taking off your underwear. Also, I was told by a recently pregnant friend to take a Tylenol before I went, not sure if that helped?

I've only had Brazilians and have no idea how you'd do that with any underwear on since they remove *all* hair in the nether regions. Seems silly to pull your panties to the side for that procedure. That's why I'm curious what everyone meant by getting waxed.

I only found that it hurt in one spot for me and was otherwise tolerable (when I wasn't pregnant) and am contemplating getting a less invasive waxing of the area, but I might be too lazy.

I get waxed but now I notice pimples. Is that ingrown hair? Is it because the skin is more sensitive when pregnant? What should I do about it? TIA

scrub! Use a mild scrub though. Then when they appear you could pull them out with tweezers. Happens all the time I think so it doesn't necessarily have anything to do with you being pregnant.
Did you get a brazilian or regular bikini wax?

They also sell something called "Tend Skin" (or something similar). You just put it on a cotton ball and it helps prevent the ingrown hairs. That might be helpful.

I got regular bikini. Thanks for your recommendations! Is there a difference between hot wax bikini and cold strips (except for the obvious). I wonder if hot wax is just too much for my skin.

I'd recommend Knong at Bang on U St. She's very quick and will keep you entertained. I was in last weekend and she told me I was one of three pregnant women she was waxing that day. I always got Brazilians but once I told her I was pregnant she switched to regular bikini, I think she doesn't want to put your legs over your head or press too hard in certain areas.

I dread my bikini wax appointment because they hurt so much whether I'm pregnant or not.. That said, I go to Melissa at Bluemercury at Georgetown- she's AWESOME- they use great wax- and I agonize a bit less when I have an appt with her.

I'm 33 wks pregnant and going in this week.. I can't even see over my belly at this point to see what's going on down there

I go to Anita at Ibiza - love her - she's efficient, fast and totally makes you feel comfortable about the initimacy of the process. (But a vote for Nora at Skin Beauty Lounge --- used to go but its just hard to scoot out to Eastern Market versus down the street to Ibiza.)

Pre-pregnancy I got Brazilians. While pregnant I get "the Playboy" which the name cracks me up but it is more than a bikini and less than a brazilian.

My failproof (for me) routine is as follows:

1. Day before and day of appointment exfoliate bikini area.
2. Exercise before appointment & shower obviously but the point is you really don't want to exercise after the appointment trust me.
3. Take tylenol 60 minutes before appointment.
4. Day after appointment do not use loofah or even soft/semi abrasive scrubby puffs on bikini area.
5. Two days after appointment use soft/semi abrasive scrubby puffs on bikini area helps keep ingrowns away!

Good luck!

I'm actually getting a bikini wax this week, at 36 weeks pregnant.

Does anyone have any tips?

Before being pg, I would normally just lie on my back. What do they have you do when you're pg? Just stay propped up at an angle?
